GlueX Weekly Softwae Meeting Feb. 15, 2005 Attendees: David L. Elliott W. Nokolay K. Zisis P. Joachim K. Richard J. Matt B. Vardan G. Paul E. Simon T. Mark I. Ed B. Agenda: 1. Report on SURA Grid Workshop, Atlanta, Jan.5-7, 2005 (Nikolay Kolev) http://www.phys.uregina.ca/halld/software/GridNotes.html 2. Recent Modifications to HDGeant Geometry (Richard Jones) 3. Cmsg publish/subscribe system (Elliott Wolin) ------------ 1. Nikolay discussed some of the programs presented at the SURA Grid Workshop that took place in Atlanta last January. Univ. of Regina intends to start testing some of the packages locally but not in the very immediate future as they have some other projects to complete first. There was a little discussion on what security requirements GlueX will need for GRID tools. We will not likely have the same needs as the industry driven packages. However, out needs may still benefit from their solutions. Sandy Philpot is organizing a seminar sometime in March to review the jlab work in this area. It is intended to present what is available now and what will be as the field develops in the near future. This will be a good way for JLab users to keep in sync (and contact) with the Computer Center personel working in this area. 2. Richard reported on several upgrades/modifications to HDGeant. These were derived from a list of requests that Richard has collected since last December. Here are a few notes: - Cheat tag for distinguishing primary vs. secondary tracks - 4-D cheat tags (some used to be only 2-D or 3-D) - (Gas) Cherenkov segmentation - Errors in CDC angle of stereo layers and cheat code ids fixed - TOF geomety/segmentation - Still no UPV model - Still no DIRC model - Consistency with Ravi's drawings checked. Values entered into spreadsheet which has been uploaded to the portal. - Target package is not fully detailed. The outer edge is in with some guess for the skin thickness - No forward plane of start counter (only 40 element barrel). 3. Elliott announced the availability of the new Cmsg system from the JLab DAQ group. He had sent out a couple of messages to the mailing list before but wanted to remind everyone that is now available and they are eager to find applications in which to test it. Cmsg is a general use publish/subscribe networked messaging system which will be used extensively in the next generation DAQ software being developed by the JLab DAQ group.
