Gas System

  • The gas system delivers an Argon-CO2 mixture to both the FDC and CDC wire chambers. It is always operational and should not stop feeding gas to the chambers.
  • During accelerator down-times when the wire chambers are not in operation the gas flow through the chambers is reduced and the alcohol bubbler system is bypassed.
    • Standby gas flow in the hall:
      • FDC gas flow is about 60sccm for each chamber
      • CDC gas flow is about 0.5l/m
    • Operation gas flow in the hall:
      • FDC gas flow is 100sccm for each chamber
      • CDC gas flow is 2l/m
  • When switching from standby gas flow to operation gas flow verify that the fill rate of the MFC to the buffer tanks in the gas shed is greater than the flow in the hall to the chambers.
  • Before beam operations in HallD enable the alcohol bubbler system.
    • CDC:
      1. Open valve MV135
      2. Close valve MV137
      3. Open valve MV139
    • FDC:
      1. Open valve MV136
      2. Close valve MV138
      3. Open valve MV140
  • For general information and operation of the gas system see Gas system for shift takers.
