FDC Update

  1. First cell of the second package was installed yesterday using new tooling: hubs with pins that have variable height. Now, instead of inserting the chamber planes into the pins as we did before, we insert the pins into the plane holes one by one. The new procedure is much easier and safer for the chamber.
  2. First cell flushing with gas since yesterday, good gas tightness, but signals still small.
  3. Second cell is almost ready and will be installed after finishing the tests of the first one. Techs working on the third cell.
  4. Gas system problem discussed at the last bi-weekly collaboration meeting: when increasing the flow, the bubbler stops bubbling and the pressure in the chamber increases. Changing the bubbler fixed the problem, but it's not clear how the bubbler can block the gas at higher flow rates.
  5. Problems with already two field wire spools: when pulling the wire from the spool it happens sometimes that the wire is below another layer. Hall B was informed about this problem: we took 5 spools out of >250 that Hall B purchased. We and the CDC don't have such a problem with the sense wires.

CDC Update

  1. As of yesterday 92 straws were strung in layer 28, this is the last of the straight layers. Next week we will move on to stereo, which will probably take a few days to prepare for, whilst the procedures are finalized and some extra assembly equipment modified (the alignment device).
  2. The stringing work is interleaved with testing tension in the wires installed the previous week and performing repeat measurements on older wires.
  3. Kait and Amy have been manufacturing hook up wires, over 1000 have been made so far.
  4. Gary is busy milling the standoffs and other small pieces required for the swiss cheese plate installation.
