Online Farm in Computer Center

Chip suggested to Elke that Hall D consider locating the online farm in the computer center.

  • Would use regular JLab farm nodes.
  • CC would take care of maintenance, repair, configuration, etc.
  • When H-D not running nodes could be used for something else (e.g. H-D monte carlo).
  • Would need > 3 GB/s bandwidth between counting house and CC.
  • No advantage if online farm is small, only if it is large.
  • Will discuss this at future meeting after DAQ group and others have a chance to think about it.

Fiber Test Stand

  • Everything is working now: trigger, readout electronics, DAQ.
  • Have tested trigger up to 10 kHz, no problems.
  • Beni needs to figure out how to hook up and use the stepper motor and controller.
  • Light box components on order.
  • We have spares for everything except the CAEN V792 ADC. If the V792 dies During production fiber testing we cannot afford to wait to order another module, as it would put us behind by many weeks. We need to locate some sort of spare before then. Chris thinks there may be other unused modules on site.

Electronics Status

  • See Chris' talk for many more details.
  • 15 weeks left in FY08.
  • Money is a problem, as usual!
  • Much progress on FADC250.
  • 8 boards fully stuffed with 10 bit chips, one board has single 12-bit channel.
  • The 12-bit version was sent to IU.
  • Ben put together a Labview FADC test station and is thoroughly testing the FADC.
  • Readout libraries working thanks to Dave Abbott.
  • VME download of FADC firmware not working yet.
  • Dual-edge transfers not tested yet.
  • TI board being tested, now have 4 working, much testing remains.
  • Signal Distribution boards schematics should be done by end of July.
  • Crate Trigger Processor schematics done, routing and placement in progress. This has an 1100 pin BGA FPGA and 14 layers!
  • SSP, GTP, TS - they will get to them after the current crop of boards are completed.
  • Chris is working on the system drawings (rack and crate placement, etc) with Tim.

After the meeting Gerard sent the following:

Just to give a quick status update on the ADC125, layout (and further schematic details) are in progress, for the past week I've been working to get the processor FPGA pinout defined, make the footprint, deal with some power distribution issues, and starting to work on the VME transceiver parts. Also, the bigger parts (FPGA, ADC, FIFO) with potential leadtime issues are all on the way now. Less critical items will be ordered when the schematic-generated BOM is stable and complete.

Fernando has my schematic and layout files to look over - BTW I will post new later today, Fernando.
