New Action Items from this Meeting

Minutes

Attendees: E.Wolin, Chris C, Fernando B, Simon T, Elton S, Carl T, David L, Alex S, Dave D, Ben R, Ed J, Eugene C, Elke A, Vardan G, Hai D.

May 2008 Review Subsystem Review

  • still need date (probably middle to end of May), charge, names of reviewers, etc. from 12GeV Project office
  • need pre-brief materials a few weeks before review
  • both the Electronics and DAQ groups are working on docs suitable for pre-brief materials
  • trigger group (aka Dave D) will generate pre-brief materials for trigger system design
  • need to complete tests and freeze development a few weeks before pre-brief materials are due
  • need last few weeks before review for practice talks, revision of pre-brief materials, etc.
  • May milestones in Online Major Milestones are still acceptable/possible
  • Chris/Fernando are nearly done with electronics drawings, some work needed for DAQ and networks sections
  • crate-sum demo should be ready for review
  • general agreement that 200 kHz triggering demo will (might?) happen by the review
  • prototype TI board should be back in two weeks or so

Trigger Studies

Alex S presented latest results from his MC study of triggering in Hall D. MUCH discussion followed, and it was clear that Alex needs to make a complete presentation in a separate meeting devoted to this topic. He will collect a complete set of plots, starting from ground zero, and present them in the next week or two.

  • studied hadronic backgrounds, via Eugene's Pythia++, and E-M background, via Geant3
  • included pileup in 100 ns gate
  • looked at FCAL and BCAL energy sums, and TOF multiplicities
  • used Richard's full beam simulation, including complete bremstrahlung spectrum, collimator, beam pipe, etc.
  • more at the dedicated meeting...

Electronics Status

Important...Chris asked us to verify he has received all physics requirements for all electronics components!

  • Chris put new docs on the GlueX portal
  • has many drawings including crates, networking, etc.
  • drawings being put into engineering documentation system
  • board naming scheme settled now
  • VXS is standard for all trigger and DAQ crates
  • a few new FADC250 boards coming soon
  • TI out for fab, back in two weeks
  • doc writing in progress for all boards (TD, F1TDCv2, SSB, TS, etc)
  • need to verify L1 latency

GTP Board Update

Ben reported on latest on FPGA simulation of GTP board.

  • used trigger equations from Dave D's original study
  • simulated at full 250 MHz rate
  • used LX220 V5 FPGA as target
  • used 3% of the FPGA to program original trigger equation
  • took 276 ns to process equation in FPGA simulation
  • could fit four FPGA's per VXS board, so may only need two GTP's to get 16 equations
  • could add cpu to board for additional functionality
  • all parameters stored in remotely-settable registers
  • can reprogram FPGA quickly given good connection to board
  • do we need lookup tables to augment FPGA algorithm?
