- Announcements
- CPP and NPP Readiness Review
- Elton Draft Slides
- We went over a couple of slides on electronics (slides 4 and 5) in Elton's draft presentation to the ERR
- There was substantive discussion and feedback on several points. From my notes, please send corrections/comments:
- FADC cables
- Original CDC,FDC cables from Amphenol are obsolete. Cable used for prototype in beam is also no longer available
- Chris has ordered a short section of a new cable that should work. He will check that the assembly with connector all fits.
- We need a length before the cable is ordered. Now that we have located the location of the rack, we will ask Stephanie to estimate the cable length.
- LV supplies/cable
- Recall: Each chamber requires two +5 and two -5 supplies: Rory: Each supply draws 1 A, i.e. 2x2=4 A per chamber -> 20 W/chamber
- Fernando: Each MPOD channel delivers 5 A -> can channel supplies one chamber -> need six channels. [Question: In my notes I have that we need six +5V and six -5V = 12 channels?]
- We will need cables that connect the MPOD supply to the chamber, which has banana plug connections.
- Hovanes: For the slow control need to know whether one needs control of +/- voltages separately. It was decided that the +/-5 volts can be tied together.
- HV supply/cable
- There is a CAEN HV crate on the upstream south rack and has sufficient space. There is a Drift Chamber card, but it takes the Radial connector (not SHV)
- There are two options: a) find a card with SHV connectors (I don't think Hall D has any), b) fabricate a Radial-Radial connector and a box with Radial input and SHV outputs (Hall B has made some of these)
- Slow Controls:
- Hovanes: The slow controls can be implemented once the specifications are fixed
- Tripping on current is part of the HV supply and normal for chambers
- Ramp rate
- Define interlocks: temperature? CDC and FCD have temperature interlocks
- Rory: the electronics is enclosed in a shield, generating 20 W.
- Nick will purchase thermistors (or thermocouple), one for each chamber. They can be added to the PLC on the platform
- Gas system: Final design has not been completed, but a relatively simple setup is envisioned. Rory: Proposes six flow meters (one per chamber) set at 5 cc/s. Each chamber will have its own bubbler with a camera to check flow. Beni: He has bubblers in his office.
- The specification needs to fe finalized before controls are addressed.
- Heating of electronics
- This was discussed in some length
- Fernando: Suggests adding an inlet and outlet to the electronics box, which could be used to flow gas through the electronics in case it is needed.
- Next meeting
- We will reconvene to try to nail down the loose ends.
