To-do for solenoid controls redesign
- Infrastructure
- what goes into fourth rack besides computer?
- get fourth rack, install temporary wheels, bolt to other three racks
- Address committee concerns
- dual fast dump switches?
- other redundancies?
- UPS on control boards and contactor?
- what else?
- Cryo system
- need specs, new channels, new functionality, etc.
- Wiring
- document trip chains
- label circuit breakers
- use Sequence-Of-Events (SOE) module, need additional wiring and relays
- prototype use of SOE module and relays in controls test stand
- cross-talk on voltage tap channels
- change connection scheme?
- change current limiting scheme?
- have fast and slow requirements, high and low voltage threshold requirements
- 10 kHz Dataforth modules? attenuators?
- discuss with engineers
- use local measurement and current-loop to bring it down?
- extend voltage measurement range using attenuators on separate Dataforth/PLC channels
- should we use high-bandwidth Dataforth modules?
- should we monitor all relays? circuit breakers?
- Danfysik power supply
- do we want to go to Ethernet based control?
- choose ground fault detection mechanism
- lockbox for key
- lock/tag/try for dump resistor
- procedures to check for dump resistor integrity and diode polarity
- Quench detector
- can we get a good balance?
- need sub-coil inductances in proper order
- do we need to design our own QD?
- can we get an FPGA module with A/D inputs off the shelf?
- Instrumentation
- implement system to isolate fault detectors and determine time sequence of trips
- monitor circuit breakers?
- implement RS232 connections to all devices (e.g. vacuum gauges)
- Use RTI 435NBX instead of Point I/O serial modules? Need to get one and test.
- VME-based fast DAQ
- NI vs VME?
- connection to PLC?
- connection to EPICS?
- A-B HMI improvements
- fault sequence screens
- Viewpoint
- get screens on the web
- security?
- EWEB
- create tag lists
- security?
- A-B PLC programming
- consider existing program a prototype, rework for 15-20 year lifetime
- custom ("add-on") instructions to simplify everything
- EPICS
- new channels
- UPS power
- to where
- solenoid controls racks
- target?
- downtime due to power loss is deciding factor
- to where
Notes
- max ramp rate in the hall is approximately 10V / 20H = 0.5 A/sec
