Combined DIRC/CKOV PID:

* Preliminary ideas/design work for a combined PID system using the a gas threshold Cherenkov and DIRC from Babar read out with the same photodetectors.

* Study details of remaining background from BDT analysis of h'(2600) channel, where the correct topology is reconstruced with the PID of two particles reversed (eg. K+ <--> pi+)

Minutes

Combined DIRC/CKOV PID:

  • Preliminary ideas/design work for a combined PID system using the a gas threshold Cherenkov and DIRC from Babar read out with the same photodetectors.
  • Idea is to cover the full momentum range with combined TOF, DIRC, and CKOV for forward angles.
  • Several possible designs with single or double sided readout and possibly cutting the quartz bars in half.

h'(2600) Background Investigation:

  • Study details of remaining background from BDT analysis of h'(2600) channel, where the correct topology is reconstruced with the PID of two particles reversed (eg. K+ <--> pi+)
  • Most PID swaps are caused by ambiguous kinematics where K and pi have the same momentum magnitude.
  • Suppress combos with momentum of K and pi similar with a cut or include in BDT, stronger impact for high purity

Kinematic Smearing:

  • mcsmear used to degrade position resolution in single thrown pi+ sample to determine degradation in resolution expected for kinematic variables
  • Reconstructed tracks in data challenge data smeared by expected degradation in resolution for kinematic variables via "resolution map"
  • Results of selection efficiency and purity for w/ and w/out smearing, w/ and w/out CKOV for h'(2600) and eta'(2300) channels
  • Will produce similar studies for phi3(1850) and Y(2175) to be used in PAC proposal.
