Action Items

  1. Change BCAL and FCAL coordinates use the global coordinate system (not the target center). Action of this item is under discussion It was decided to leave the as is. Usage of shower objects is advised in analysis.
  2. Consider developing data structures for the peak value (Mark)

Minutes

Attendees: Matt, Elton, Adesh (Jlab); Ahmed, Zisis, Tegan (UofR); Will McGinley, Curtis, Mike (CMU); Manuel (IU).

  1. Announcements
  2. Action Items
  3. GlueX Performance document: BCAL & FCAL high-level plots GlueX-doc-2775
    • Elton and Zisis will propose figures for BCAL, Matt will propose figures for FCAL over the next week.
  4. Run preparations
    1. Solenoid cooldown and ramp up mid August
    2. Log Entry 3347614 BCAL LED status run
    3. FCAL was turned on yesterday (Adesh)
      • Log Entry 3348287
      • All bases have been programed
      • All fuses that tripped have been replaced.
      • Hovanes has given the ok to upload the new base firmware to the bases and Jon has completed the task.
      • Two of the bases fixed by Paul and returned to JLab have programing issues. Matt will work with Adesh
      • 19 bases are not responding. Matt suggested that they be addressed with the stand-alone software
  5. FCAL Update (Adesh)
    • Working on implementing new simulation for FCAL
    • Simulation using nominal input gains, pi0 mass resolution is about 4.5 MeV
    • Generate fixed energy pi0s (3 GeV) with uniform angle coverage, Ecluster>0.5 GeV.
    • After adding a threshold per block of 50 MeV (7 times threshold in data), mass resolution increases to 5.4 MeV.
    • Preliminary conclusion is that thresholds in the data should not be limiting the resolution.
  6. BCAL Update
    1. Log Entry 3348237 Pedestal width studies (Elton)
      • Brief summary: noise spectrum that shifts the baseline is > 1 KHz. Contribution of baseline shifts to rms is about 3%, which corresponds to a shift of about 0.3 counts.
    2. Log Entry 3348344 Negative Energy Studies (Will M.)
      • Preliminary notes on trying to confirm the origin of negative energies is due to pulses coming late in the gate
      • The ratio of the integral/peak decreases as the pulses move to the back of the window, as expected.
      • Estimate of time for pulses from slow protons to be included in the window shows that it is tight with the current Nsa=55 counts. Will be relaxed for shorter integration windows.
      • Elton: other systems should check acceptance of slow protons in their readout window.
      • Expect updates to log entry over the next day
    3. Efficiencies (Ahmed)
      • Checked that negative energies coming at late times do not seem to affect the efficiency
      • Noted a discrepancy in the run browser for efficiency plots (e.g. Run 3221) and has communicated this with Kei.
  7. Calorimetry F250 Firmware Discussions (Elton)
    • Format is settling on the one proposed by Sasha, which combines information in the event and hit headers
    • New format will contain integral, time, peak and pedestal information
    • Will request the capability of specifying the integration window to start after the threshold crossing.
    • Event pedestal will be available in the hit information. Baseline pedestal shifts can be monitored using the secondary readout of pedestal information during synch events.
  8. Reconstruction and Simulation
    1. Eta reconstruction (Tegan)
  9. Calibration
    1. Effective Speed of Light and Time offsets (George)
      • Zisis, Stratos and Christina have provided feedback to a draft document, which should be available soon after George returns from vacation
      • Elton: Constants should be uploaded to ccdb, as they are an improvement over what is currently available, even if not final.
    2. Log Entry 3348354 Time-walk fits (Zisis)
      • Noemi has successfully used Mike's scripts to determine time-walk correction constants. Systematic investigation of the results are underway, including checking whether the proposed parameterization needs modification.
  10. Any other business
    • Will inquired whether Tegan was pursuing the measurement of Michel electrons in the Bcal. Tegan is now working on other tasks. Elton: Can try taking some data with wide windows and Will can investigate options for extracting a signal.
    • Zisis: Blake Leverington is now working at Heidelberg on the LHCb tracker and will give a seminar at Regina this afternoon.
