Minutes

Attending: Tim, Beni, David, Elton (Jlab); Matt, Kei (IU); Will - no audio, Alam (USM); Christine (Athens)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
    • George Voulgaris uploaded a presentation a few weeks ago which have not yet been reported. The conclusion is that the new setup seems to work well with a near/far ratio of 1/3. However, the new LEDs are not very uniform and the suggestion is to revert back to the original LEDs.
    • Procurement has requested additional information to Christine regarding their proposal. Elton will setup a meeting with Christine and procurement personnel for Thu (this has been confirmed for 8:30 am)
  4. FCAL
    1. Construction Status: mechanical, bases
    2. Mechanical construction is moving along well
    3. Electronics: Meeting last week with Dan Bennett and Hovanes regarding integration of the voltage to the bases into EPICS
      • One issue that came up was the present absence of tripping on over current. IU checked about adding this capability to the micro code but they have determined that it will be tricky. Fluctuations on the individual current measurements is large. The present hardware trip current is 50 mA. Matt's suggestion is to implement a trip setting on the sum currents from many (e.g. 100) bases. If the goal is to protect against beam trips, this may be fine.
      • The detail response Hovanes' questions are being formulated
    4. Bases: Production contract is in place and expect the first samples next week
      • Kei and two students (Kevin and Scott) have developed a PMT test station and procedures, which are almost ready. The goal is to glue and test 50 pmts per day.
    5. Development items on the horizon:
      • Finalizing slow control
      • Creating chassis for power supply (Fernando has reminded IU that this is needed and they will work with Hovanes to work out interface with slow controls)
    6. Fcal platform: Tim: Finalizing support structure for Fcal in about a week. They will provide drawings to IU for feedback
  5. BCAL
    1. Construction Status: builds, fibre QA
    2. USM test facility update: Alam Toro
      • Few notes on presentation (see linked file).
      • 10 SiPMs received from JLab
      • 2 big boards assembled and working, which can test 8 MPPCs at at time (128 channels)
      • Pulses shown for several sensors for pedestals and response to LED light source. Some channels dead and others with problems, but first glance at implementing the full test setup.
      • Beni: suggested to use higher light source to distinguish it well from pedestal. Also check the frequency of the LED pulser and perhaps reduce the rate.
  6. Simulations/Reconstruction
    • "New" BCAL Reconstruction Algorithm (Matt)
      • Project to develop a reconstruction scheme which is appropriate to our detector and also can be maintained and understood
      • Should not detract from finalizing the work on granularity.
      • Project needs to be picked up by someone. UofR will not get to it for a couple of months. If Matt has resources or finds a student that can work on it before, he will do this. Otherwise, this may be a project may move to UofR.
    • Discussion of Beni's results on FDC placement - Not much discussion here, will have a dedicated meeting when Beni obtains efficiencies for a few physics channels (so far all studies have been with single photons).
  7. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011) (Kei)
    • Christine; Should a monitoring system be fabricated for the beam test? Matt: presently not part of the plan, and covering the 5x5 prototype it will not be very representative of the final detector.
    • Proposal
    • Sketches
    • A beam test proposal has been written and is on the portal with most of the relevant information required.
    • Kei would write a one page executive summary for Eugene to use in discussions with Volker.
    • Elton promised to check the space under the tagger in hall B to ensure it matches the IU sketches.
  8. Any other business
