Action Items

  1. Introduce FPGA timing algorithm to derive hit times from fADC
  2. "Curvature effect": incorporate Andrei's and Irina's parametrization of this effect into the KLOE and IU codes and establish that this closes the gap in cluster handling between the two codes. (Who?)

  2. Action Items:
    1. Flash programming is involved; it requires a 6 month period to implement. A draft document will be available for March 1 for the fADC250 which will be discussed with the electronics expert. The current schedule is to have the existing programming for the fall Engineering Run and the new programming for the Production Physics Run in 2015. Objective is to have an event-by-event pedestal subtraction to improve the resolution, with one word for the time, one for the pulse integral and a third for the pedestal. It should be noted that the calorimeter pulses are much nicer (more consistent shape) than the chamber pulses.
    2. The implementation of the curvature effect is still pending by David. David was able to read ROOT file tables that provide the z-coordinate construction as provided by Andrei. A technical issue is how to read them using JANA resources in a manner consistent to the reading of similar (large file) resources such as the magnetic field maps, and the sampling fraction tables. David will work on the magnetic field first, then the sampling fraction and last the curvature correction. The new JANA has other bugs (e.g. viewer) too which David is chasing and hopes to fix in version 0.71. When the mechanics are dealt with, Andrei and Will will check the simulations to verify that things are working properly.
    3. With Giovanni returning to his home country and George Vassileiadis possibly going to the army, the reconstruction effort is very low on manpower. Mark D. is looking at the reconstruction code slowly, but cannot commit at this stage due to his other obligations. Zisis should be able to put a M.Sc. student on the project in May or June.
    4. Will asked whether we should enter old versions of constants into the ccdb and it was agreed to wait for the new versions and a more mature code. The old KLOE code is probably deprecated, and following Andrei's/Will's checks on the curvature, the KLOE code should be retired. The Software Review urged us to implement constants (e.g. gain offsets, timing offsets). Most likely we will start taking cosmics with the BCAL in March and those constants will start giving us experience. As far as simulating constants now, David reminds us that the timing subtraction is not done yet in the code but will eventually go into MCSMEAR. It would take about a week of work to get that in, for someone familiar with the code, including the calibration code. Regina will undertake this. David and will briefly discussed the JANA CallGraph: DBCALHit is the lowest level in the CallGraph right now and mcsmear writes to it. Perhaps an even lower layer is need for the uncalibrated hits.
