Minutes

Attendees: David (JLab), Curtis (CMU), Christina, George (Athens), Noemi, Tegan, Andrei, Zisis (Regina)’’

  1. Announcements: David mentioned that there has been nothing new from accelerator since yesterday, and we'll possibly know more after the codlin in a few days. Tom Cartstens said that the magnet repairs are on schedule. Tegan will be coming to JLab for a few weeks in December and will take the Regina standby shifts.
  2. Action Items:
  3. Use pTrackFind for comics analysis (George): George tried this out but it did not significantly improve his results on veff.
  4. Commissioning Efforts
    1. Effective speed (George): George is concentrating on large runs with magnetic field on and focusing on regions of maximum linearity in the ztrack-zpoint plots (E.g. runs 3180, 3185). David mentioned that run 3186 had a magnet trip, so part of it is with B=0, but the quality of the data is unknown.
    2. Time-walk corrections, Layer efficiencies, eta and eta-prime: no reports; students have their PhD exam tomorrow.
  5. Calibration
    1. Cosmics (Andrei): Andrei and Irina have progressed on the analysis of comics towards the calibration of the BCAL, by normalizing the energy deposition in a cell to the path through the cell. It looks like the method works, but needs some technical cross checks. MC data is being used to test the this tracking method.
    2. Muon decays
      1. Simulations (Andrei/Irina): Now that the calibration effort (above) is under control, attention is being turned to the Michel electrons. Andrei sent an email yesterday to Elton and Will to get details on the desired cuts for that analysis. Following this, spectra will be generated
  6. Reconstruction
    1. David reported on the issue initially addressed last year, between him and George. Namely, different way of running the reconstruction gave different BCAL geometrical parameters. George had addressed this issue in his code and now David has merged the master into George's branch, looked at run 2931 at the first 10k events (shower E, phi, r) and the distributions look identical. Tracking also looks fine. Also, Nathan had noted that the BCAL online monitoring plugin needed all libraries to work properly. George's and master branch look very similar. George will do a pull request to get everything in the trunk.
  7. Any other business: David reported on Marty's progress in looking atto install DocDB and the Portal on a JLab computer. David dumped the Regina mySQL db and brought it and an synch of all the files. Marty is evaluating another tool to replace docDB which would integrate security. However, there would have to be a very good reason to leave DocDb as the collaboration's work is integrated into it. David assured us that we will have veto power over the decision, and in any case Marty already maintains other instances of DocDB for others at the lab.
