Work scope and Constraints

Darkening the bar box in-situ. No use of RTV.

Guide lines

  • Skin over the honeycomb structure is incredibly thin, finger pressure alone will leave marks.
  • No shape edges near the box.
  • Caution when tape or removing the tape, as gentle and as slow as possible.
  • All tools (Tape and scissors) must be strapped or tied around the operator around the neck or waist to prevent dropping on on the box.
  • Safety net or cover around the bottom box when operating on the top box.

Work Plan

Schedule starts as soon as run finishes and hall re-opens (April 20 2019) (Pictures of the current setup and example light leak spots will be provided)

Only black tedlar and non residue black tape.

  1. Darkening of the lowest bar box.
    1. Documenting of LED data profile with the full cover for the hall light on and off.
      • Log:
    2. Air filter checkup (just so that we don't forget).
      • Log:
    3. Disassemble the air-in pipe for the lower optical box (on the bottom).
    4. Attaching and securing SiPM detector, making sure it can see inside the optical box (through the gap between the row #18 and the window frame). Darkening the opened air-in holes.
    5. Gas purge-line modification: replace the transparent N2 line with non-outgasing dark tubing.
    6. With the hall light on, start to uncover black cloth and start taping the light leak spot. Work from the far side to the near side of the optical box.
    7. Finishing up and dark seal the bottom air in-let hole of the optical box.
    • Note: in case of the supporting rib interference, tape and tedlar needs to be used to cover the entire area. Worst case scenario, we could consider to detach the bar box from the optical box, tape, then re-attach.
  2. Darkening the second lowest bar box.
    1. Disassemble the air-out pipe for the lower optical box (on the top).
    2. Attaching and securing SiPM detector, making sure it can can inside the optical box (through the gap between the row #1 and the window frame). Darkening the opened air-in holes.
    3. Repeating the process for the first bar box
  3. Darkienng and verification of the top bar boxes.
    1. Since the optical box is not yet installed, the darkening process will take place before the optical box installation.
    2. Mount the SiPM securely at the opening end of the bar box.
    3. Repeat the rest of the procedure for darkening the lower boxes.
