Minutes

Present:

  • FIU: Sasha Ostrovidov
  • JLab: Chuck Hutton, Beni Zihlmann (chair)
  1. First 5 production paddles have light guides glued to them and are now in the wrapping room for wrapping.
  2. The wrapping procedure has been changed slightly such that the light guide is wrapped with a separate independent piece of reflective material that is templated to fit the light guide better. A small strip of aluminium foil is used at the intersection between the scintillator and the light guide.
  3. Currently Paul Eugenio is doing the wrapping. He has not yet trained students to do the job. And because he is currently at the APS meeting the wrapping is on hold.
  4. Maurizio is polishing the light guides. 70 LG have been polished already.
  5. 10 out of the 92 production bars have been measured in the dark box using UV LED to determine the attenuation length. It was found that one paddle had a very small attenuation length. After contacting Eljen the manufacturer agreed to send them a new paddle. According to them it could be that this paddle came from the edge of a batch and probably should never have been shipped in the first place as their edge parts are usually discarded.
  6. During the attenuation measurement the paper is completely removed from the paddle as the glue of the paper destroys the internal reflection and distorts the measurement.
  7. Chuck is working on the TOF-frame design but is not yet finished.
  8. The Mini-TOF stand is still assembled as it is still in used as show and tell object for the FSU administration.
