Minutes
Attendees: Varun, Jon Z., Tim W., Tim B., Arshak, Igal, Zisis, Josh, Sasha, Liping, Jane, Phil C., S.T.
- Module fabrication area in TEDF has been cleaned out, tables are available, Walt A. has order shelves -- space is almost ready to go (some stuff will be moved out on Monday 1/27/20).
- SICCAS update: 160 crystals packed and ready to be shipped to us in 4 boxes
- 60 intended for NPS
- Visual inspection and initial QA by Jane lead to rejection of 16% of crystals the company produced
- Some of the 160 crystals we accepted warrant further study
- NPS found discrepancies between their transmission measurements and the company's, we will test several to check
- Need to provide feedback to company after crystals arrive (in 2 weeks?)
- Light yield setups: NPS setup is fully operational -- we are in the process of making a duplicate setup in EEL126, almost ready to go pending computer connections.
- We went over Sasha's spreadsheet for module procurement
- Some work on inner surface of mu-metal shields needs to be done by the company that does the welding
- Plan to buy ESR (reflective material) and possibly mu-metal for entire 1600 crystal set.
- Some indication that putting ESR on end opposite to PMT leeds to ~5% larger yield -- reduce hole size?
- Light guide diameter still not entirely pinned down -- 18 mm is standard size but we gain some light collection benefit going to 18.8 mm, which would require machining. Question: is the extra $ expense worth it?
- Tim B. has machine shop at UNCW that could be used for many possible tasks -- we are in the process of trying to find tasks that would be appropriate for him/his students to do. Brass flanges? PMT testing?
- Need to find another source for brass straps (company we used before no longer carries exactly what we used).
- Still planning destructive stress test.
