Minutes

Attendees: Elton, David, Beni, Tara, Tim, Eugene (JLab); Zisis, Andrei (UofR); Javiera, Will, Hayk, Serguei (USM); Matt (IU); Christina, George, Pavlos, Stratos (Athens)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
    1. Urgent orders are out
      • LED boards have been ordered, should be received by end of the month
      • Flex cables requested but not confirmed
      • All effort is being made to speed up the production. Hope to have boards by the end of July.
    2. LED system on Mini BCAL
      • JLab bench testing (Tara/David?)
      • Screen shots of pulses. Far/near ratio~2.25 but large variation.
      • Andrei: It appears that the variation is due to the size of the near signal
      • Christina: All LEDS in production will be tested and can be selected for best match in each string of 10.
      • Will: Two-component optical RTV was used previously and without primer adhesion is moderated and would allow replacement of LEDs
  4. FCAL
    1. Frame construction Status
      • Machining of steel support structure is almost complete
      • Al parts are almost complete. A workaround is being developed for a small machining mistake.
      • Note that 3 1.5" holes in each corner are included for monitoring communications. Elton and Tim to check.
      • George: Requested that Matt send the drawings to verify sizes. Matt has already done this.
      • Assembly should start next week.
    2. Cockcroft-Walton Bases
      • Production has sped up and currently matches the rate to put them together.
      • At this rate, should be complete by mid-July.
      • An extension to the contract has been requested and is in progress. Elton should check status.
    3. Cables
      • Secured cable label printer and setting it up
      • Will label the 1600 cables at IU before shipping.
  5. BCAL
    1. Cosmics at Regina
      • Preparing to use 2010 prototype to check normalization procedures using cosmics
      • 2 light guides on top for SiPMs and one on bottom for calibrated pmt
      • Five paris of trigger counters to accumulate statistics quicker.
      • Almost ready to start studies
    2. Update on BCAL Beam Tests 2012
      • Irina ha simulated 5deg/2 GeV data. Files are available but not yet analyzed
      • Preliminary look indicates significant leakage as we see in the data. Resolution will be degraded but MC and data comparisons should be useful.
      • SiPM Bias and Board Amplification Discussion
  6. USM update
    1. SiPM Update (Javiera)
      • Stage 3: Power supply from CAEN arrived on June 8 and testing resumed on June 12
      • Stage 2: 214 PDE measured, need 66 more to complete testing in this stage
      • Final shipments from Hamamatsu are scheduled to be complete mid July.
      • Will: Should consider number of spares needed in case we wish to add onto the current USM order.
      • Serguei: If additional 32 units ordered, they could be placed into the Stage 3 test setup and run continuously to check stability
  7. TDR update
    1. Instructions for the TDR (You must be logged into the wiki to access this page).
    2. We need to start revising Chapter 4 Detector, Section 4.3 Calorimetry.
    3. Calibration of Calorimeters
  8. Simulations/Reconstruction
  9. Any other business
