Minutes

Attending:Elton, Yi, Eugene, John L., Beni, Tim, Sasha (JLab); Will,, Hayk, Javiera, Sergei, Orlando (USM); Zisis, George, Andrei, Mehrnoosh UofR); Christina, George, Pavlos (Athens).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
    • Four SiPMs are being prepared for shipment (new rules require DOE approval)
    • Tracking indicates that LED boards have arrived at JLab.
    • Discussion about attaching LEDs into light guides so that they could be removed and returned to Athens for additional testing.
    • JLab will see how they fit on light guides and options for mounting and communicate offline.
    • Christina: Need to check pitch and flexibility of cable connecting boards. Jlab will provide feedback soon.
  4. BCAL Beam Tests 2012 - Check List
    1. Hall B (John)
      • Elton and John have installed a fourth "remote" scintillator at approximately the 45% position
    2. Mechanical (Tim)
      • Brackets are being machined
    3. SiPMs/LGs/Cooling (Elton, Fernando, Scott)
      • 80 SiPMs have been selected and are being readied for installation. They correspond to 8 voltage groups. Each SiPM has unique jumpers to span the range of sensors from Hamamatsu
      • Testing has not started yet. There is some ringing in the preamp boards. Fernando is investigating. Could be due to mismatches in impedance and or grounding problems.
      • Once the ringing is fixed, the sensors should be able to be tested in a couple of days.
    4. Monitoring: LEDs+boards+controller (Christina)
    5. Test full Mini Cal with cosmics
    6. LV, HV, VXS, Flash ADC, F1TDC, Discriminators, NIM, Trigger (Sascha)
    7. Online Coda/Analyzer / Data to disk/tape (Sascha)
    8. Logbook, e-log
    9. Run plan (Elton, Zisis)
      • John will coordinate schedules with other groups from Halls A and B.
      • The present goal is to install the mini-Bcal on Wed Mar 21, but could be a week later.
    10. Simulations (Andrei, Irina)
    11. Manpower/shifts
      • Zisis: Regina will have undergraduates that can help out with testing modules this summer.
  5. Update from USM
    1. Production Manager Report (Javiera)
      • Presented the mapping of electronic channels to SiPM pins
      • Received a new Wiener CAMAC controller for Station 2. This will allow them to increase the DAQ rate from 30 Hz to 1KHz
    2. Station 3 condensation problem.
      • Added a second heat exchanger. They now have one on each side of the dark box.
      • The following procedure is followed: The heat exchanger near the LED (where condensation is not important) is set to 2 deg C. Then the heat exchanger near the SiPMs is set to 5 deg C. After settling both are set to 5 deg. this procedure seems to work. There is presently no ventilation in the system.
      • A backup plan to circulate nitrogen has been costed.
      • Humidity in the room is about 45-50%.
    3. Station 3 Analysis (Hayk)
      • Alam has been working on fixing all channels and they are almost all working
      • Hayk has implemented a new method to extract the DR and Xtalk. The DR extraction is now twice previous analysis, but has a smaller temperature dependence.
      • Still using 120 ns gate. Planning to increase gate to 1 micros and investigate sensitivity of results
      • Comparison of extracted dark rate and charge in gate/gate width is inconsistent. Investigating cause
      • George Lolos: UofR has investigated the systematics of extracting the SiPM parameters as a function of many conditions and will make that available for reference.
    4. USM Web Interface to DB
  6. Light guides
    1. Will: Getting setup to high rate production of light guides.
    2. Missing light guide "K" is packaged and ready for shipment.
    3. Light guide arrival
      • Elton measured the relative light transmission of the light guide F using 3 different wrappings: tedlar, acid-free paper and Al mylar.
      • Within 10%, all wrappings resulted in the same transmission as no wrapping.
      • Tedlar was chosen for the wrapping because it eliminates extraneous light (i.e. opaque) and is thin.
  7. Status of Testing at JLab
    1. Hall-D ELOG
