Minutes

Attending: Will, Orlando, Iñaki, Javiera (USM), Elton, Yi, Beni, Tim, Serguei (Jlab); George, Pavlos, Stratos (Athens); Andrei (UofR)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Talks at the Collaboration Meeting May 21-23
    • Looked at proposed agenda.
    • Shortened Fcal status to 15 min.
    • Added two talks from USM. Will request additional 15 min for our session from Curtis.
  4. Update from USM
    1. Production manager report (Javiera Quiroz
      • Plan is to ship first 400 tested units to JLab on Friday May 18
      • Insurance has been purchased for the shipment
      • The PDE determinations in Station 3 are not consistent. For the first shipment the PDE for all units have been measured in Station 2
      • Expectation is that the PDE measurements in station 3 will be sorted out, but for now a larger fraction of units are being measured in station 2, which is producing reliable measurements
    2. A study of PDE from station 3 (Orlando Soto)
      • Systematics of the PDE measurement in station 3
      • Light source is being calibrated by fitted functions to determine the PDE, but results are not consitent
      • Yi: Jlab is making a table look up for the light intensity across our setup
      • Serguei: the LED and SiPM are in the same volume and affected by the same temperature changes, so they may be seeing light intensity variations of the light source.
    3. Light Guides (Iñaki)
      • Question about the tolerances on the planar surface note on Rev 3 of the drawings. The tolerances are determined by the dimensions on the light guide
      • USM is proceeding with a schedule to produce sets of 40 light guides, which populate one end of the Bcal, which will help JLab with the gluing schedule
      • Fabrication of the jig for light guide A is complete and in use
      • Design and fabrication of the jigs for other light guides is underway to accommodate the new schedule
      • The machine for polishing is being assembled, and polishing should start next week
      • The polishing is by hand, but the machine is setup with 3 types of plates corresponding to 5 micron, 1 micron and 0.3 micron polishing solutions
      • The machine has a motor to regulate speeds
      • Description of the setup will be prepared for the collaboration meeting next week
    4. USM Web Interface to DB
  5. Status of Testing at JLab
    • Hall-D ELOG.
    • The production testing has started and 100 units have been tested. The measurements determine the PDE, DR and breakdown voltage at 15 deg C
  6. Monitoring (George)
    • Boards for control boards (3) have been received in Athens are being populated. Will ship 2 control boards to JLab next week. One will be kept in Athens for tests.
    • The new board design has protection against power surges
    • A silk screen has been added so that the boards themselves are self-explanatory
  7. BCAL Beam Tests 2012
    • Updates (Elton and Yi)
    • Run 597:Event 16 (Andrei)
    • Considerable discussion followed on the latest results from the beam test, especially related to possible effects of spectra with different biases turned on. Histograms can be found in the beamtest log
    • Yi was going to investigate the time dependence of the spectra
    • Andrei: Requested that we fix the one side of the trigger paddle that had failed if there is an access. Then retake data with all biases on at Vover=1.2 and 0.9 V.
    • Elton: Hope to take data with single biasses at Vover = 0.9V.
