In order to estimate the range of energy deposition we should expect to see in the FDC I generated PHYTHIA events and ran them through HDGeant. I focussed on the coherent peak (8.4-9 GeV). Shown below is the dEdx distribution for forward-going tracks from this data sample. The only prominent feature is a pion band. There is no obvious proton band. This suggests that we need only design the ASIC for the FDC to accommodate particles whose energy loss is a few times minimum ionizing. dEdx_vs_p
