Minutes

Attending: Elton, David, Ivan , Beni, Yi, Eugene (JLab); Will, Alam, Orlando, Ricardo, Hayk (USM); Shawn, Zisis (UofR); Christina, George (Athens)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring (Christina, George was on EVO but we were not able to hear him)
    1. Fcal first article boards have arrived in Geneva
      • Will start populating them as soon as they arrive in Athens
    2. Setup for measurements of Fcal source using full size plexiglass (two sides instrumented with 5 LEDs)
      • Measurements conducted over the past 3 days to check uniformity
      • Scanning the surface oer 10x10cm2 areas
      • Measurements are hampered because they do not have a sufficiently large enclosure for the measurements. They are keeping the room as dark as possible and covering the plexiglass with black cloth.
      • So far they have not succeeded in finding uniform solution.
      • Measurements are ongoing.
      • Christina asked about the size of an LG block (4x4cm2)
    3. Bcal LEDs are being sorted according to intensity. The plan is to have 8 patch panels (one per quadrant x 2). Binning the LED intensity into 8 groups of closest matching would be useful to minimize scanning through a large range of biases during monitoring runs.
  4. Update from USM
    1. Link to the dump of the modified data base in three formats [3]
      • 1st link to dump of database
    2. Link to the content of Stage 3 [4]
      • Link to stage 3 data
      • Hayk indicated that modifications to the data base were conducted based on feedback that Elton provided to the description of items on the wiki.
      • Feedback will be provided offline to the updates
    3. Last shipment of 360 MPPCs has arrived in Santiago. The remaining 10 units are still being discussed.
    4. Light guides
      • Data for the measurements of the light guides are in an excel data sheet
      • Elton asked that each (measurement - specification) be plotted in a histogram, one histogram for each parameter measured. The plots were promised for later today.
  5. Status of testing at JLab
    • Ivan has completed the measurements of the SiPMs that were on the mini-Bcal in the beamtest to determine the changes due to irradiation.
    • In particular the dark rates before and after the beam test are being compared
    • Studies in progress and will be reported at a subsequent meeting.
  6. Status of testing at Regina
  7. Simulations
    • Updated BCAL Geometry (plot1, plot2) (David L.)
    • Simon had noticed a few weeks ago that the geometry of the Bcal was not accurate. Dave has updated the files to correspond to the latest mechanical drawings. Uses radiation length scans to identify the differences between the updated and old geometries
    • The magenta curve is for the old geometry
    • The green curve is for the updated geometry
    • The second plot shows a detail of the first, nearest the target. The old geometry had an overlap with some of the FDC cables, which show up in the updated (green) geometry but were masked by incorrect overlaps in the old geometry.
  8. Beam Tests, Cosmics
    1. Mini BCAL timing analysis File:Meet121113.pdf
      • Andrei and Irina have done a preliminary study of the timing of the mini-Bcal using the beam test data. Zisis gave a quick overview this morning. The preliminary summary plot shows a statistical term of 80 ps *sqrt(GeV) and a floor term of 256 ps, but large uncertainties. He and Andrei will go over the plots in more detail with Elton this afternoon.
