Minutes

Attendees:Matt (IU); Elton, Mark, Adesh (JLab); NW: Sean; Zisis, Andrei (UofR); Christina, George (Athens); Will, Curtis (CMU)

  1. Announcements
    • Accelerator update
    • Replacement chokes to fix the 7th arc power supply have not arrived yet. New estimated arrival is about Nov 7 and it will take 1-2 weeks for installation.
    • Cause of choke failure is thought to be poor cooling combined with incorrect calculation (from Danfysik) for heat release during that failure, which resulted in avoiding interlocks to safeguard the system. Clixons have now been installed on all magnets to prevent future incidents.
  2. Action Items
    • TDC timing calibration note is GlueX-doc-3165. Expect draft by end of next week.
  3. BCAL update
    1. New data
      • Mark has been looking at the recent cosmic runs. He found that the decoding was incorrect for the number of samples in the shower. David is working on fixing the problem. Sean also found that the BOR record was recording the incorrect number of samples, or that the number of samples delivered is not the number requested.
      • Sean: Checking the times in the emulation code and it is correct for BCal but not Fcal, so need to investigate further.
      • Sean suggest to add pulser data to help in debugging. Adesh: Fcal is already pulsing data routinely. Elton and Mark: We can add pulser data for the Bcal as well.
    2. Update on BCAL Time Calibration (Andrei & Irina)
      • Andrei presented attached slides and responded to questions
      • Elton: What is the relative size of the fadc and TDC (could perhaps explain long tails on fadc time spectra)? Andrei: does not know, but he uses the defaults (TDC hardware threshold and Fadc default times from hit objects)
      • Christina: How is the shower time obtained from individual layers? Andrei: the shower or cluster times are the energy-weighted averages of the hits in the cluster. Use layers 1, 2 and 3 for both FADC and TDC.
      • Mark: How is the pid determined? Andrei: Uses default pid with a high FOM
      • Christina: What data sample was used? Most files from run 10913
      • Sean: (slide 5) Were the plots obtained by completely redoing the full analysis with different calibration constants? Andrei: No. From the default analysis, corrections were made to account for different calibrations for the plotting.
      • Elton: At the last meeting it was stated that the cluster resolutions were worse than the resolution for individual layers. Has that changed? Andrei: Only the statistical terms were worse. -> Need to optimize the algorithm for combining times from individual hits into a single cluster time.
  4. FCAL update
    • Hot checkout not yet completed
    • 35 bad bases, which will be replaced soon
    • Chris has started fixing bases. Adesh showed him how to disassemble the base to access the PC boards. Several bases have now been repaired. Plan to use these bases as replacements so that we can verify the repair procedure.
    • One FADC has problems and Adesh is working with Sasha to get it fixed.
  5. Calibrations
  6. Reconstruction and Simulation
  7. Any other business
