DAQ Milestones

DAQ systems of various sorts will be needed during detector development, construction, and checkout. Here "low-rate" means that parallel or staged event building is not needed, and "small" means four crates or less.

  • Low-rate single-crate DAQ systems are needed now (Jul-2007).
  • Low-rate small multi-crate systems will be needed by Summer 2008.
  • Low-rate large multi-crate systems will be needed by ????.
  • High-rate small multi-crate DAQ systems will be needed by ????.
  • High-rate large multi-crate systems will be needed by ????.

(I will poll detector groups to determine their requirements...ejw)

In all cases the readout crates may be full.

The full DAQ (approximately 80 full crates) must be ready for testing the complete detector with cosmic or pulser triggers by ????. First beam to the hall is expected in ????, with low-rate production data taking expected to start in ????, and high-rate production data taking expected in ????.

Additional DAQ development/demonstration milestones:

  • Final inter-process communication package (done)
  • Final event transfer system (almost done)
  • Final event i/o package (done)
  • Prototype software component framework (done)
  • Prototype run control system (done)
  • Prototype front-end driver software (almost done)
  • DAQ test farm by 28-Sep-2007 (PED deliverable, done)
  • Prototype staged/parallel event builder by Apr 2008 (PED deliverable)
  • Prototype timing and trigger distribution by Jun 2008
  • Prototype remaining software components by Jun 2008
  • Simulation of full system at low rate (run control, ET, multiple EB's, ER, etc) by Oct 2008
  • Prototype L3 farm management software is needed by Oct 2008
  • Simulation of full system at high rate by ????
  • Final front-end driver software by ???
  • Final trigger and timing distribution by ????
  • Final experiment control system by ????
  • Final component framework by ???
  • Final software components by ????
