Wednesday, February 15

  1. Accelerator Status
    • Maintenance and RF recovery complete
    • Beam very stable overnight [1]
  2. Hall-D/GlueX items
    • Running last 24 hours
      • ABU: 7 hours (401+172)
      • BANU: 0.75 hours (14+28)
    • Access:
      • FCAL: 16 bases and 2 PMTs replaced[2]
      • BPU: 1 mm lead radiator installed [3]
      • Collimator: 1mm insert placed in 3.4 mm hole [4]
    • Analysis of old harp scan data suggests beam size at collimator is < 0.5 mm [5] ( within spec [6] )

  1. Accelerator Status
    • 31 hours without beam, and counting. LCW tripped off but no alarms due to a bad flow meter. Temperature sensors tripped off the magnets. Suspected short in magnet on recovery, repaired with insulation.

    • Mostly smooth running over the weekend
      • Cryogenics problems Monday Owl
  2. Hall-D/GlueX items
    • Running last 48 hours
      • ABU: 31 hours (371+339+279+380+367+122)
      • BANU: 5 hours (27+65+126+13+59+15)
      • Triggers: 12 billion reached [15]
        • How many are hadronic in the coherent peak?
    • Auto CO2 bottle changeover didn't happen [16] [17]
      • New valve purchased. Bottle will be changed preemptively in future.
    • Nitrogen valve issue [18] [19]
      • This was a controls issue, not quite clear. Under investigation.
    • Rates vary with diamond orientations [20] [21]
      • Evidence suggests this is low energy stuff. Seems like it will cancel to first order in PARA to PERP for both settings.
    • Solenoid power supply transistor light persists [22] [23]
      • Not a problem. Instruct shift crew to ignore this.
    • DAQ disconnection [24]
      • Memory allocation problem solved,
      • network overloaded at certain hours of the day, RC timeout extended to 5 minutes
      • ET system crashes - still mysterious. Under investigation.

Friday, February 10

    • Difficulties on Day Shift and into Swing. Owl smooth

      • New channel out in FCAL; occupancy drift in single PS channel; LED signals still in some histograms, cuts coming; new statistics on some histograms (nice)

      • Rho analysis, 30 kHz data before beam focus was tuned

        • timing calibration seems out; polarizations might not be good because of lack of accidental subtraction; signal to background looks great; 30% lower rho/trigger compared to Spring 2016(should improve with calibration); omega width 50% larger and yield lower by half

    • Slew of difficulties over Owl shift, pathlength drift, electronics problems, BPM problems

    • Coherent Peak Position difference
    • 50 kHz running
      • Smooth running, hodoscope up to 5.7 GeV turned off. Occasional glitches in the DAQ rate due to Java garbage collection (adding a few percent to deadtime.) 900 MB/s
      • What is the data quality? (Normalized to trigger) Physics signals, (omega, rho: # per trigger, widths, backgrounds)
    • Monitoring
      • Low level monitoring coordinator (Thomas): Report every morning.
      • High level monitoring coordinator (Alex): Report every morning.
      • Cut on triggers for monitoring
      • Run DAQ when beam is gone
      • Threshold for alerting experts?
        • Run coordinator should be called for problems that limit data taking
