Minutes

Attendees: Ilya Larin, Beni, Elton, David, Yi, Dan B., Alam (JLab); Shaun, Zisis (UofR); George V. (Athens); Matt (IU); Will (USM).

  1. Announcements
  2. October Collaboration Meeting
    • Suggested talks: Fcal (John Leckey), Bcal (Zisis). Software/reconstruction (Will)?
  3. Action Items
  4. Monitoring
    • Elton: UVT acrylic sheets arrived from Eljen and are stored in the ESB. They require sanding, painting, etc. before installation.
    • Zisis: Paper for NIM is circulating. Final comments due Thu.
  5. FCAL
    1. Contract was completed in August. Final paperwork should be submitted to JLab by the end of this month.
    2. Work in Hall
      • Cabling continues. 75% completed last week
      • It takes 4-5 persons to cable to upper section.
      • Most of the work is taken to install cable trays and labyrinths.
      • Once complete, interlocks and monitoring system needs to be checked
      • Communication with Dave Butler to interface to the PLCs.
      • Elton: Need the system diagrams as documentation for review of the dark room. Dan will upload documents to DocdB for reference. Bert Manzlak checked the dark room and has made the assessment that it is not considered a confined space.
    3. Helium Poisoning PMT Tests PDF
      • Following the work on the magnet and the quench, pmts were inspected for increased noise due to absorption of helium. Seven pmts were tested (3 from top of Fcal, 2 from middle and one bottom + one which had not been installed)
      • Flashed blue LED in small dark box and checked pulsed on the oscilloscope.
      • Concluded that no evidence of additional noise was seen on the pmts originally classified as "good". One pmt classified as "retest" showed substantial noise 1 micros after the LED pulse. There was no evidence of noise when the LED pulse was absent or beyond 2 micros from the LED pulse.
      • Elton: The evaluation seems to indicate that the "good" tubes are still operational, but there is no direct before/after comparison.
      • Matt: Should check rank of tested tubes relative to all others in the Fcal and whether any of these tubes come from the latest purchase from Russia.
  6. BCAL
    1. Installation (Elton)
      • Modules have been assembled into the cylinder. The construction is 1-2 mm off round. Kudo's to the Regina team and Tegan for assembly order.
      • The outside and inside of the wedges (around the inner and outer plates) has been sealed with RTV, as well as around the cooling tubes and MPPC power connections.
      • Checklist for installation is being completed today. Expect to move barrel into solenoid tomorrow.
    2. Cosmic Data (Shaun)
      • See GlueX-doc-2292
      • Preliminary look at average energy deposition by cosmics in the production modules after gluing light guides.
      • Not all modules had much data. Elton: Should check that the run analyzed was the latest and longest.
      • There will be an update for the next meeting.
  7. Reconstruction and Simulation (Comments on path forward)
    • George Vasileiadis will work on he reconstruction for his thesis analyzing simulated events
    • Zisis has a new graduate student, who will work closely with Athens on reconstruction efforts.
    • Will Levine's contributions will diminish as he moves on to other project
    • Andrei and Irina will continue investigating the "curved" showers
    • Ilya Larin from ITEP is investigating the possibilities of joining GlueX. They have extensive experience with calorimeter reconstruction and simulation including work on PRIMEX.
    • Matt: Undergraduate Zach Jones, who worked here this summer, will continue in the group and move to more challenging projects including looking at the discrimination of gammas from pi0s, perhaps using BDTs.
  8. TDR update
    • Zisis will make sure his latest edits have been checked into svn. The Bcal section is about 30 p. Final MPPC data from Chile is not included.
  9. Calibration of Calorimeters
  10. Any other business
