Instructions for Joining the Conference Call

All members of the GlueX collaboration are welcome to join the biweekly conference call. The calls are organized by Yang Guangliang and occur approximately every two weeks. Instructions for joining the call are:

Telephone:

  1. (860) 486-5081 - only one incoming call is accepted at this time. If you want to connect and are getting a busy signal, VRVS may be your only option.

VRVS:

  1. Go to http://www.vrvs.org and press Login. If this is the first time you have used vrvs, you will need to register first using the Register button in the left-hand column of the main page, and respond to the email confirmation request. When asked what community you belong to, you should respond "Universe."
  2. Watch that the application is able to initialize correctly without warnings. If so, you are ready to join the conference, otherwise you must resolve the problems with your desktop or network configuration before you can proceed. The VRVS site has ample help to assist with troubleshooting the problem.
  3. Press the Enter button in the left-hand column. A list of meetings currently underway is shown. Select the meeting entitled "GlueX Tagger" and enter. If the meeting is not shown, perhaps you have showed up too early, or you are not in the Universe community. Meetings generally start 1-2 minutes after the scheduled start time in order to give the software time to flush out the occupants from any previous meeting in that virtual room.
  4. You must enter the password "gluex" in order to be admitted to the meeting.
  5. Wait for the conference application to load and the chat window to appear. After this, you will be able to connect to the audio/video channels by pressing the Connect button on the meeting page. If you are behind a router or firewall that should be automatically detected and a proxy service started to manage the connection. Before you connect, make sure that your desktop audio is configured. If you want to be able to speak as well as listen, you need a headset equipped with a microphone. If you have a built-in microphone in your desktop, do NOT attempt to use it during a conference call. Only a headset/mic combination, or a specialized videoconferencing system (eg. Polycom) with built-in echo cancellation are adequate for internet conferencing.
