Ventrilo
From GlueXWiki
Ventrilo is a tool for voice communication. It's fast and light with excellent sound quality and we got it working in Regina in a few minutes.
The client can be downloaded from http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
for Windows and Mac. I had to use Wine (Crossover) to get it to work
under linux but it works smooth nonetheless except for one modification:
(see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3936&iTestingId=5557)
Under Mac we had to change the push to talk button to F15 to get it to work on Zisis computer; any other other unused key will work).
Password: same as for writer on the DocDB
Hints for setup:
- Select a user. Click "New" or "->" to the right. Your name can be anything you like.
- Select a server. Click "New" or "->" to the right. The name can be anything (i.e. "Vent"). The hostname is currently "lafayette.phys.uregina.ca" and the port by default should be "3784". There is currently no password. Click "OK"
- Now "Connect"
- Settings: Under Mac we had to change the push to talk button to Control (left) to get it to work on Zisis computer. PTT (push to talk) should be enabled)
- It should be working. (If you talk you should see your speaker icon change from red to green).
- P.S. the server took 30 seconds to setup as well as the client. There are professional versions of this as well. I believe the free version of the server is limited to 8 clients.
