Minutes

Attending: Rory, Elton, David, Simon, Naomi, Alex, Andrew (did I miss anyone?)

  1. Previous CPP meeting: Aug 18, 2021
  2. Announcements
  3. Action Items
  4. Discussion: AI for Experimental Controls testing during CPP.
    • See email from David
    • See email from Naomi and links therein
    • CDC gains depend on atmospheric pressure
    • Relative gain is independent of beam flux
    • Goal is to have AI program running that determines the HV setting for chambers to compensate for gain changes.
    • Proposal is to have a training period to check procedures followed by adjustments between runs by shift workers based on input from AI program.
    • The AI program would be streamlined to operate efficiently and avoid errors. Maximum voltage changes (of about 20 V) would limit any automatic adjustments.
    • We agreed to include this test of the CDC gain adjustments using AI for Experimental Controls during the CPP run period in 2022. Detailed plans will be coordinated in advance of the run period.
  5. MWPC Testing a JLab (Albert, Rory, Beni, Alex)
    • Alex and Beni have started taking data. So far about 60 M events have been taken.
    • Gas will run out soon. Alex will contact Mark Stevens to order more. The chamber will be turned off tomorrow to save gas. We need to check data on cache before taking more data.
    • Rory/Andrew: Albert is at the graduate student orientation this week. The program for conversion (DAQTree) of evio -> root trees is operational, but final testing has not been completed. Andrew will test first pass and bring Albert up to speed.
  6. MWPC Status at UMass (Rory)
    • Four remaining chambers are ready to ship
    • Rory is waiting till after Labor Day for cooler weather. Plan would be to drive down on a Thu, unload/check Friday, fly back on Sat.
    • During this trip he will bring down all equipment/tooling necessary to fix broken wires if that becomes necessary.
  7. Grounding (Rory)
    • The signal connector on the chamber is not directly connected to the chamber ground. The connector metal is connected to the ground sheath enclosing the signal pairs. Each individual signal pair is grounded to the electronics on the chamber.
    • Discussions with Fernando concluded that grounding the connector only on the FADC end is proper and eliminates a ground loop.
    • However, the actual noise configuration should be tested in the EEL. Connections of the connector to the chamber ground can be easily added.
  8. hdgeant4 updates (Beni and Simon)
  9. GlueX Data Analysis (Andrew)
    • Trees of single particle gun are almost ready to give to Kishan and David.
    • There were some remaining technical issues with running the updated plugin. David told Andrew how to check which plugin was being used. Once he verifies that the correct executable is being used, a file will be generated.
  10. CPP Simulations
  11. PID + AI
  12. Other business
  13. Next meeting
    • Meetings will be moved to 10 am on Wednesdays.
