Abstract:
The primary goal of the GlueX project is the difinitive and detailed mapping of the spectrum of a new family of particles called hybrid mesons. Linearly polarized photons produced by electrons from an energy-upgraded CEBAF will be the probe used to uncover this spectrum. This experimental information is absolutely critical in finding to an outstanding and fundamental questions in physics - a quantitative understanding of the confinement mechanism in quantum chromodynamics.
