Notes added by Elton (based on discussion at meeting)

  1. Platform Support
    1. Meeting Nov 9. Discussion of mechanical design parameters.
    2. Assume iron absorbers will have a donut shape. Need inner (7"?) and outer (64"?) diameters.
    3. This amount of iron is about 22-30 metric tons. At 4k$/ton of machined iron, the cost is about 90 - 120k$.
    4. Gap between iron absorbers: The thickness of each MPWC is (0.4x2 + 0.5x2 + 0.25x4)" = 2.05" thick. Assume 1/2" space on either side -> 3" spacing is reasonable.
    5. Attachments: It appears that is should be possible for steel plates to be attached to the corners of each MPWC at the 1/2-20 bolt holes. Estimated weight for each chamber is 150 lbs. One should be able to connect a lifting fixture (e.g. eyes) to the steel plates both for lifting and hanging for the experiment.
    6. Extended length of chamber: There are PCB boards that extend beyond the 64" chamber frame. On one side the preamp PCB is about 5", and on the other HV PCB is about 4". Cables will come off each PCB, so an additional 6" or so would be required for cable attachments.
