Experiment Monitoring

The person on each shift that monitors the experiment should pay attention and record the following:

  • Beam current.
  • Hall-B EPICS screens.
  • Tagger t-counter and e-coujnter scaler plots.
  • Ensure appropriate radiator (B=2x10-5) is in.
  • Verify configuration and trigger settings at the start of each run, according to the Beam Test Run Plan.
  • Inspect data on BCAL Event Viewer.
  • Examine ADC and TDC spectra for each run as well as all other available ROOT histos for tagger and trigger (see Analysis below).
  • Provide feedback to MCC as necessary.

Recording Information

  • Fill out 'Shift Checklist' once per shift.
  • Record the purpose of each 'controlled access' (configuration change or troubleshooting/experiment not ready) and what was accomplished.
  • Fill in the 'Hall B BTA Account GUI' at the conclusion of each hour. MCC will call at 7am, 3pm and 11pm for the BTAs. Click the 'Get Info to MCC' button on this screen and report the numbers to MCC.
  • Track every run in the Run Table section of the Wiki.
  • Be dilligent about making entries into the GlueX E-Log.
  • Update the HOWTO documentation and this page in the Wiki as necessary.

Analysis

  • Analyze a reasonable sample of events from each run.
  • Examine ADC and TDC plots from BCAL, tagger, etc as well as suitable correlation plots.
  • Determine the no. of entries in a few sample cells: no '3', '8' (a lot of energy deposited), no '10', and '15' as a gauge of collected data for each run and enter this in the 'Run Table' (see above).
  • Print out sample, routine, trouble and beauty spectra and put in the white 'BCAL Test Binder (record date, run number, etc on plots). Place nice ones on the Wiki at Sample Histogram section of the Run Plan.
