Items for followup from previous meeting(s)

  1. Fcal
    • Specify the number of Rad Hard blocks to writeup a change request to the project.
    • Fernando to provide information on how to turn on digitization on FADC.
    • Matt to supply Fernando with the latest Cockcroft-Walton schematics.
  2. Bcal
    • Run MC to investigate changes in resolution due to different fiber attenuation length and light output.
  3. Bcal readout
    • JLab will investigate purchasing some prototypes from Plastic Craft.
    • USM will investigate options for producing prototypes in Chile.

Minutes

Attendees: Matt, Mihajlo, Jake, Ryan, Claire (IU); Zisis, George (UofR); Elton, Beni, John, Fernando, Eugene (JLab)

  1. Announcements
    • Reminder: Next Thu Bcal Readout meeting internal status review of readout technology
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Calibration/Monitoring
    1. Notes added: After the meeting completed, we found that George Voulgaris had connected, but was having audio problems. He have a quick update on work in Athens. (Student protests in the streets had slowed progress. Christina also has a hand injury which is limiting her computer work).
      • Calibration tests using a plexiglass foil is being instrumented. Two LEDs seem to provide ample light, but intensity controls are still needed.
      • This work should progress over the next few days, and a report could be available for the collaboration meeting.
  4. Fcal
    • Fabrication contract (Elton and Matt)
    • Matt raised the question about the dark room for the Fcal. Elton verified that indeed there is an activity line (1562465) in the installation schedule.
    • CR for rad hard glass. Ryan is finalizing the analysis.
    • PMT procurement. Will attempt to purchase "existing tubes" from Russian factory.
    • Zisis inquired about possible beam test: Would be very useful, but no specific plans. Final electronics will not be available till Fall of 2010.
    • FCAL prototype update (Jake)
  5. Bcal
    1. Construction Status
      • Construction Prototype ConstProto.jpg vs. Module 01 Mod01.jpg
      • Module 1 has been completed. Ends cleaned up yesterday at Ross machining. Best module so far!
      • Press 1 sustained damage through shipping and usage. Top plate will be replaced to improve uniformity.
      • Press 2 will be used to start fabrication of module 2
      • Received 5 base plates, one is prep'ed for module 2.
      • Testing of fibers from shipment #7 underway.
  6. BCAL Readout
      • FM light guide geometry Chuck Hutton
      • Pedro: Noted that lower "doublet" does not fit into the module section and interferes with adjacent modules. This problem has made it difficult in making a consistent geometry. This may be the case for the JLab model as well and should be checked.
    1. GEANT4 CAD importer Edward and Alam
      • Examples of some complicated CAD files have been successfully imported into GEANT4 using the pixellated forms. However, the light propagation has not been implemented for this geometric description in GEANT4 and is a GEANT4 development project
      • The import has been accomplished using a lightweight (inexpensive) version of a commercial product.
      • Alam continues to work on implementing the light guide geometries by hand, but it is not yet completed.
  7. Simulations
