Minutes

Attendees:Elton, Mark, Simon, Jon, Adesh (JLab); Will, Mike (CMU); Zisis, Tegan, Ahmed (UofR); Matt (IU); Liping (UNCW)

  1. Announcements
    • Gravitational waves detected! Announcement this morning
  2. Action Items:
    • Elton: Starting to mix in Bcal LED pulser data with production (currently comics). Checking the formats and preparing for beam production data. We should consider doing the same for Fcal LED data for continuous monitoring.
  3. Collaboration Meeting February 18-20, 2016.
  4. FCAL Insert - Liping Gan
    • MRI proposal submitted to NSF to fund the Compton Calorimeter (CompCal) for PRIMEX-eta experiment as a prototype for the Fcal insert
    • Only current source for PW0 crystals is from Shanghai (SIC).
    • Cost of crystals is driven by specifications that need to be written carefully to satisfy physics but constrain cost
    • MRI proposal is only for detector, electronics is assumed borrowed.
    • Issues that need to be studied for insert include : 1)Magnetic field shielding for PMTs, 2) Study the expected dose rate on FCAL-II and 3) Optimizing PWO crystal specification and price
    • If the project is funded, the schedule calls for completion by end of 2017.
  5. Matt: How does the MRI proposal fit into the overall plans (schedule and budget) for Jlab/Hall D building of Fcal insert? No clear understanding, but can be discussed at the collaboration meeting.
  6. Elton: What kind of light sensors are considered? At the moment the plan is to use the PRIMEX Hamamatsu pmts, but study the impact of magnetic field. The are plans to do this this summer.
  7. Run Preparations
    1. FCAL Update
      1. Adesh
        • Four bases failed this week. Replaced 3 more bases
        • At the moment only one base cannot communicate. Two ADC channels are still dead and need to wait for replacement
      2. Jon
        • Collected all bases at JLab
        • Verified all entries in Jinventory db
        • Moved test setup to F117. Setup can monitor about 100 bases at a time
        • Left about 8 bases in EEL so that Hovanes can continue to test EPICS
        • Paul (Smith) is having some trouble replicating failures. Tests at JLab reveal that about 20 out of 32 bases removed from the detector have failed on the bench.
        • Consolidating base expertise at JLab with Chris and Nick. Plan to have a phone conference soon with Paul to transfer knowledge.
        • Part of the effort will be to transfer all the documentation in addition to troubleshooting expertise to JLab.
        • Standalone software files are committed to svn
        • Tools to produce plots and monitor bases are cleaned up
        • Still finding some intermittent problems that are difficult to diagnose. Bases with such problems have weak components exchanged, but underlying problem may not be fixed.
    2. BCAL Update
      • Cosmics with LED pulser data are being taken. Ahmed will check to see if he can untangle the LED events.
      • Will: Completed SiPM test plugin. It now has all the desired features: checking for false positives and outputting useful information.
      • Plugin will be cleaned up and checked.
  8. Reconstruction and Simulation
  9. Calibration
  10. Any other business
