Minutes

  • JLab: Eugene Chudakov, Mark Ito (chair), Nick Sandoval, Beni Zihlmann

Electronics Installation at FIU

Nick is travelling down to FIU this Sunday and will be coming back on Friday. Initially he will uncrate the electronics, set-up the electronics and cable them up. that should be done by about Tuesday afternoon. In the remaining time he will serve as consultant to the FIU group as they get tests going.

Nick is bringing down a laptop with a LabView application to control the MPOD. The idea is to transfer the program to the computer in the FIU Lab for use after Nick returns.

Light Tighting Scheme

Eric stressed that we need to address this issue soon. Mark will contact Chuck and form a plan for getting a design.

Detector Construction Status

Eric gave a presentation on the status of scintillator polishing and testing. Please see his slides for details.

They have a new procedure using a combination of 0.3 micron alumina suspension from Allied and 0.05 micron suspension. The counters are polished for about an hour with each suspension. Again, after polishing, the counters give time resolution consistent with the best prototypes. FIU is still refining the polishing procedure. They will finalize it soon and start production polishing.

The support structure arrived. A test fit of three wrapped counters was done and alignment looked good. The pneumatic foot for the assembly jig held the counters well and the ring mechanism works for holding installed counters.

Readiness Review

Some days ago Mark and Werner discussed the date of the review. We decided on July 22.

Progress Reporting

Eric is about to send a formal progress report on the construction contract. These will be issued monthly.

Invoicing

FIU sent its first invoice to JLab. The invoice lacked an itemized list of items being charged for. Jarrod Fitzpatrick of JLab Procurement is in contact with his counterparts in the FIU Division of Research on this.
