New action Items

Notes from last week

  • Discussed Gas system status, vacuum system, cell and scattering chamber and tasks to be done. The following are the results of the discussion;
    • Procurement of gas system components started. Still need piping and relief valves. $40-50K
    • Maybe best to locate purge bottle on pad outside hall?
    • Target group will order the 500 gallon H2 tank for outside and take care of piping and instrumentation on the tank - off-shelf item, order in May/June
    • Jim Fochtman working on the pad requirements for the tank and purge system as well as path of piping to hall and submit to facilities for installation.
    • Probably locate pipes to tank through cryo penetrations.
    • Plan to use 20' flex line to allow target to be moved in and out of the detector
    • lakeshore controller from target group was tested for compatibility with Hall D controls. All is good. Chris ordered controller and Josh ordered PLC controls. Still need to order cables.
    • Looks like a heat exchanger using LCW/Chilled water most economical for refrig. compressor
    • Jim to get with Dave on scattering chamber design (<15Psig).
    • Tim ordered vacuum system pump cube (Pfeifer turbo cube). Still need to order gauging.
    • Chris sent out list of all items needed for monitoring/controlling from PLC system
    • Hall D people to discuss what needs to be shut off in hall when target vacuum goes south
    • Jim to develop H2 vent details
    • One target cell is made, will need to make two more
    • Dave to handle pressure system design as the DA
    • Still need to develop heat shield and work out cold head weight limits
    • Written procedure needed
    • Heium and Neon were condensed in a production target.
      • Helium took approx. 10 hrs
      • Neon took approx. 3 hrs
    • Discussion on using a heater on the cell return to help convection and one on the supply line to quicken boil off (warm up). Target group will try another run with heaters.
    • If heaters used, need controls
    • Plan on internal review this June
    • Discussion on using aluminum instead of torlon for base of cell. Jim to talk to Steve Christo.
    • Need to finalize infrastructure schedule and drawings
    • Hall D personnel will install piping in hall and to tank.
    • Target group to supply break out box for controls interface
    • Dave M. to get P&I to Dave Butler for controls loop
    • Discussion to use relays to shut down compressor, vacuum valves and heaters.
    • All need to read Dave M. SOW and comment back to him.
