Items for followup from previous meeting(s)

  1. Monitoring
    • Send additional SiPMs to Athens for tests (Elton). Electronics is being prepared, should be ready by next week sometime.
    • Measure stability of light intensity as a function of time.
    • Jlab to generate a drawing of the plexiglass sheet to be used in next batch of tests.
  2. FCAL
    • Send IU the drawings for the FCAL welded frame. (Tim) Drawings are being signed today and will be forwarded to IU.

Minutes

Attending: David, Tim, Beni, John L., John D., Elton (JLab); Will, Serguei (USM); Zisis, George, Andrei (UofR); George, Christina (Athens).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring.
    • First Results with UV LEDS
    • Tested UV LED and it performs similar to other light colors. Uniformity seems to be more uniform over a larger area.
  4. FCAL
    1. Construction Status: mechanical, bases (notes from Matt)
      • Mechanical includes outer welded structure and inner stair step clamps for glass
      • Inner parts are being fabricated in the IU shop
      • Outer welded structure drawing package is out for bids by outside contractor
      • PMTs are being glued to light guides. Have glued about 700, and tested about 600. Tested all new tubes, about 450. 3 failures
      • Tested about 150 from the old pmts, 2 cracked windows, 1 failure
      • Concern about the cracked windows. Slow down and do more careful tests with 20-30 pmts. Concern about whether the type of glass is different between old and new, but could be aging.
      • Status of CW bases. Comm boards completed. Multiplier board, which generate the HV
      • Fabrication without conformal coating are mostly resolved
      • Latest batch with conformal coating was horrible and have been returned to the vendor.
    2. Beam tests in Hall B (John)
      • Gains are balanced, checking that the procedure is robust
      • Detector is aligned relative to small remote paddle.
      • Next: reduce size of remote paddle, move detector down to floor, merge DAQ with Hall B tagger to check electron energy
      • Resolution is about deltaE/E ~ 22%
  5. BCAL
    1. 2006 Beam test analysis at forward angles
      • Presenting data at small angles from the Hall B beam test. Recall we tested a full length, but rectangular cross section and blue HiTech fibers
      • Map angle dependence of resolution (Stamatis' thesis).
      • Resolution degrades from about 5.5/sqrt(E) to 7.2/sqrt(E).
    2. BCAL Beam Tests 2012
    3. SiPM PDE extraction at Regina
    4. Characterization studies of silicon photomultipliers NIM A620 (2010) 217 (Link for JLab)
  6. USM update
    1. PDE measurement update at USM
      • Systematic measurements at USM confirm the earlier reports of PDE~32% compared to JLab measurements of ~20%.
      • The USM are comparable to the Hamamatsu measurements. Elton pointed out that several groups obtain lower values consistent with the JLab measurements.
      • A meeting to review and compare JLab/USM/UofR PDE measurements was scheduled for Friday at 10:30.
  7. TDR update
    • Elton with start an outline to be discussed next time and assign writing homework.
  8. Simulations/Reconstruction
    • Will has identified some issues with the present z vertex reconstruction and has posted them on a wiki page. They will be discussed at the offline meeting
    • Elton suggested that the page be linked from the wiki pages that were used previously to discuss cal software.
  9. Any other business
