Items for followup from previous meeting(s)

  1. Monitoring
    • Fcal: Review if cross talk experience from other detectors is relevant to this geometry and, if needed, suggest test/simulations to investigate.

Tentative Agenda

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
  4. FCAL (notes from Matt)
    • PMT bases still running and doing fine
    • ordering/fabrication of remaining bases should start this month
    • we have received the shipment of Ethernet <-> CAN interfaces and plan to send one to JLab as soon as we can build a power supply to go along with it
    • prototype mag shield was lost at JLab; John will get a quote and reorder (cost is about $150); we will send to JLab in a large brightly colored (OSHA orange with lime green polka dots) box as soon as we have it
    • I have talked with John regarding the support structure. He has received comments from Chuck on about half of the components. We would like comments on the remaining drawings. In addition, we would like a clear indication that it is OK to proceed with construction on some of the internal components that have been finalized (e.g., steps that hold glass bar). We appreciate the work that Chuck has put into this -- we really need to start getting parts in our shop.
  5. BCAL
    1. Construction Status: builds, fibre QA
  6. Cabling convention (preparation for meeting on July 20)
  7. Simulations
    1. Standalone simulations by S. Katsaganis
  8. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011)?
  9. Any other business

Minutes

Attending:Christina, Stratos, Pavlos (Athens); Elton, Beni, Tim, John, Eugene, Yi (Jlab); Will (USM); Zisis, Andrei (UofR).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
    • Not much new since last week
    • Had a meeting last Wed with Kappos. He will mount the new LEDS on a small board to attach to old design for use in tests, but not ready yet.
    • Waiting for companies to respond with costs and schedule to be used in RFP response to JLab
    • Stratos will make measurements with new monitoring geometry and new light guides and "hybrid" boards.
    • George Lolos promised to send prices for hardware for testing of the board. Zisis will remind him.
    • Schedule for response to the RFP is tight and Athens may need another extension. Christina should update procurement on their schedule before the deadline this Friday. Unfortunately, if the information is not available by next week, August vacations will further delay the response.
    • Will: asked if USM light guides had arrived. Yes, they arrived last week.

We appreciate the work that Chuck has put into this -- we really need to start getting parts in our shop.
  5. BCAL
    1. Construction Status: builds
      • Building modules 43 and 44, which should be completed during the first week in Aug
      • Modules 45-48 plus the extra modules will be built during the fall with a reduced crew
      • Ross machine shop expects pickup of shipment 10 about Aug 4.
    2. Fiber QA
      • Fibers continue testing and meeting specs, now with shipment 26. Atten measurements normal. QE scans are competing with DAQ for SiPM measurements
    3. SiPM tests
      • SiPM measurements use calibrated pmt and photodiode to cover a broad dynamic range
    4. Business
      • Elton asked about Zisis' update to cost to complete for the project. Zisis sent the file Friday but Elton missed it. It will be resent.
  6. Cabling convention (preparation for meeting on July 20)
    1. Fernando will conduct a meeting tomorrow to determine the labeling of detectors.
    2. Elton summarized the guidelines: Follow the conventions for the simulation coordinate system whenever possible.
    3. The suggestion has been made that each cable will have labels of both 'from' and 'to' (at each end). Eugene countered that too many labels may cause confusion later, as the electronic crate designations may not be determined yet.
    4. Elton will send out his understanding of labeling today for feedback.
  7. Simulations
    1. Meetings on BCAL Readout Segmentation are conducted weekly Thu at 11:00. Irina and Andrei are performing simulations and will report on Thu.
    2. Standalone simulations by S. Katsaganis
      • Zisis showed some slides of work done by Katsaganis
      • Studies with detailed MC geometry to study sampling fraction, leakage and resolution
      • Sampling fraction is now estimated at 9.5%, down from original values of 11.5%, due to the corrected assignment of the cladding as not active.
      • Leakage studies shows the fraction of leakage out various faces depends strongly on the angle. In particular, the albedo (leakage out the front) is significant for small angles.
      • Beni noted that shower development out the end of the module could register (false) signals in the SiPMs and lead to non-linearities. This should be studied/checked.
      • Eugene: Noted that the results of these simulations should be feed back into the Hall D Geant MC.
  8. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011)?
    1. Eugene requested a 1 page summary of each test, so that he can have this for talking points with Volker. The page should contain brief description, expected location, time and equipment requirements
  9. Any other business
