Minutes

Attending: Zisis, George, Pavlos (Athens); Shawn, Andrei (UofR); Will, Alam, Elias (USM); Serguei, Elton, Beni, Yi, David (JLab).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring
    • Inventory of Bcal LED boards
    • With strips and boards brought by George last week, it appears we have sufficient electronics to instrument all 49 modules. Elton has asked Chris to order 100 LEDs so that broken boards can be fixed.
    • Zisis, George and Christina will be working on a draft for a NIM paper. They will put a skeleton together and make it available for feedback.
  4. Status of testing at Regina
    • Finalized checks on NIM paper on SiPMs. Will circulate a draft next week. Measurements have been completed.
    • Making IV curves as a function of temperature. Preliminary tests already completed with dry ice down to about -10deg C. Would like to go below this temperature.
    • New measurements are running into problems with ice buildup. Work underway to prevent condensation/ice and continue measurements.
    • Also making measurements of PDE as a function of the gap between the light guide (not actual geometry) and the SiPM. Air gaps measured for 1, 2, 5, 20 mm.
    • Elton: The nominal gap is 0.5 mm. Note that the acceptance of the light guide changes qualitatively when the gap extends beyond a mm.
  5. Update from JLab
    • Extra 49th module changed from #4 to #3 (positioned adjacent to keystone).
    • All rework completed.
    • Count of all components needed to complete project.
    • Shipment of 84 light guides arrived from USM on Friday. With the replacement light guides, we have complete sets for 47 modules. Box with 33 more non-conforming guides are being shipped back to USM. They should go out early this week.
    • Ten modules remaining. Laura and Tegan are helping with gluing. Tina Mann (head tech) will be on vacation for the next two weeks.
  6. Update from USM
    • Shipped 84 replacement guides, which arrived Friday.
    • Shipped 40 first article and 1 pre-production units, which were on loan. The shipment arrived Monday.
    • A draft of a NIM paper on the SiPM work is being circulated internally.
  7. Beam Tests, Cosmics
    • Scripts are ready to go. See presentation from last week.
    • Comparison with "golden" run and other modules show consistency. Some systematic shifts of the order of 10-15% are visible.
  8. Reconstruction and simulation
    • Will is continuing the studies he described during the collaboration meeting.
    • Steady progress and will have a meeting tomorrow. Investigating the effect of dark noise. Finding extra clusters seem to be related to the "bending" of the shower, shown at the collaboration meeting.
  9. Other (Will, Elias, Elton and Serguei stayed after the meeting to discuss light guide production).
    • Elias: Have produced 30 guides. Machining is proceeding at 6 per day. Polishing is proceeding at 10 per day.
    • Raw material: there is sufficient material to produce 3 extra sets of 40 (i.e. 120 guides).
    • Serguei's proposal: replace all non-conforming guides and then fabricate 3 extra sets without a break in production. This should be sufficient to cover any eventualities without the need to restart production.
    • Other: Will reminded Elton to send Alam a letter of invitation.
