Low Voltage control Applications

Scope

  • We will be using low voltage power supplies for DC preamplifiers and SiPM bias voltages, most likely MPV-8008 and MPV-8120 cards from Wiener on Mpod multichannel power supply.
  • We expect approximately 8 Mpod crates with a total of about 42(+) LV cards.
  • EPICS driver needs to be identified, or written if it does not exist.
  • Control and alarm GUIs needs to be generated using a configuration file or a database.
  • We need to determine the backup/restore policy for the LV channels, and on the framework required to implement it.
  • A scheme for archiving some of the values should be decided.

Interface

  • The Mpod crate has USB and Ethernet interface. The Ethernet interface utilizes SNMP protocol, using which we in principle can set parameters from Linux prompter without any additional software.
  • There is an existing EPICS support for this crates and cards, so most likely we will not need to write the driver for LV power supplies.
  • The existing SNMP server on the crate allows us to recognize what devices are in the crate.
  • The SNMP protocol allows to turn the power off to the LV cards, but does not allow to reset the controller board or to recycle the power to the crate. Resetting the controller would require an access unless we do not use a remotely controllable power strip.
