Hardware Minutes

Participants: Curtis, Naomi, Beni, John, Simon, Lubomir, Hovanes, Eugene, Tim

  1. FDC Update
    1. Oxygen contamination in the first package: After monitoring the oxygen percentage for several weeks it's clear now this is not oxygen trapped inside the chamber. Different materials that are used inside the gas volume were tested for outgassing in a test chamber; no change in the oxygen was observed which excludes the possibility of cross sensitivity of the oxygen sensor to other gases in the chamber. Most likely we are dealing with leaks/diffusion but no leak of the gas out of the chamber was found so far. Since the oxygen contamination is similar in all the cells we suspect the O-rings, gas inlets, frame deformations. Beni studied the dependences on the gas flow rate and pressure trying to identify the source.
    2. Four cells are installed in the third package. The the third cell was opened two times for cleaning but now is working fine. Eugene suggested to postpone the package installation till we figure out the oxygen issue.
  2. CDC Update
    1. Construction Update
      1. Jim (JLab) has nearly completed his survey of the CDC.
      2. The rohacell ring arrived, looks good, we will dry-fit it when Jim has finished.
      3. The transparency of the cheeseplate has been greatly improved by sanding and buffing. When the buffing has finished it will be cleaned.
      4. The thermocouple kit has been ordered. We did not order a control unit for it - we are leaving this to Elliott. We plan to attach 10 thermocouples to the CDC (5 inside each gas plenum, passing through the plenum wall to the outside) and some shielded thermocouple extension cables to run from downstream to upstream endplates. Longer shielded thermocouple extension cables will run from the upstream endplate to the electronics racks.
      5. Tim asked us to think about how to check that the gas is filling all areas of the CDC before wiring it up.
    2. Prototype
      1. Naomi is still working on timing.
    3. Cosmic calibration
      1. Simon started working on some straight track fitting software with electrons to see if he could move the wires and then correct their position.
  3. TDR Update
    1. The CDC team have looked at this but no real progress yet.

Software Minutes

Participants: Curtis, Paul, Beni, David, Simon, Eugene, Nathan, Kei

  1. Overviewed recent/ongoing/future projects:
    1. Tracking chi-squared (Simon): Working on problem near 25 degrees, in general pulls still off by 10% - 20%
    2. Kinks in the reconstructed tracks (Simon): Still Studying
    3. Track Finding (Simon): New algorithm, disabled by default until testing completed.
    4. Track Viewer (Beni): Can now view detached vertices of decay products
    5. Low-momentum spiraling pions (Paul): Working on fitting hits to exponentially-decaying spiral
    6. Tracking Metrics (Kei): Working on updating scripts with additional metrics.
    7. Reconstruction Speed: Eventually try to speed up the algorithms. In some cases may not need to perform track reconstruction fits for each particle mass (e.g. high momentum).
