Minutes

Attending: Yi, David, Tim, Beni, John, Elton (JLab); Christina (Athens); Alam, Hayk (USM); Zisis, Andrei (UofR).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring.
  4. Geometry
  5. Light guides
    • Christina is unsure precisely what light guides they received from Chile.
  6. Next steps
    • Mount opposing 4 light guides (2 on each side) of miniCal to study cross talk
    • Elton: Fernando has promised to order more compact electronics with summed output to make available to Athens.
  7. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011) (John)
  8. FCAL
    1. Construction Status: mechanical, bases (notes from Matt)
    2. Beam test (John)
      • Prototype is on travel tomorrow to JLab
      • Expect to install on Thu
      • Quick cosmic tests on previous weekend and showed that prototype can be successfully connected to Flashes. Found one dead channel, which should get fixed before installation into Hall B.
      • Sasha is testing 3 flash modules in a crate at JLab, and is working with Sergey Boyarinov to integrate the system into Hall B.
      • Notes on Elog: Yi is implementing a new elog which will be made available once security issues are resolved.
    3. Beam test for Bcal (preparations)
      • The mini-Cal is under construction (layer 11) and should be done in another week.
      • Student labor will be dined next week after completion of the work for this project.
      • Eugene: Asked about measurements of the mini-cal at an angle to the beam. Zisis: Simulations were done down to 20 deg and full containment is demonstrated.
      • Wiki pages are being updated
  9. BCAL
    1. Construction Status: builds, mini module
      • The top plate on the 49th module was added yesterday. yeah!
      • Machining of the last five modules will start next week and should be completed before Xmas.
      • The current plan is to ship modules 45-49 + the mini-cal with beam test equipment in one final shipment. The truck will be a refer truck and five modules cannot fit side-by-side. They are considering the best way of adding a 5th module to the shipment. One possibility is to stack two of the modules.
    2. Fibres
      • Fiber testing will be completed next week.
    3. Summary report will be drafted in December
  10. USM update: [2]
    • Demonstration of the new web site failed during the meeting.
    • A test time to check external access to the web data base will be tried next Monday.
  11. Simulations/Reconstruction (David and Andrei)
    • Draft document by Zisis to support the addition of one additional layer to bcal is being reviewed
    • Simulations have been conducted to study neutron/photon separation, proton/pion identification, position resolution, etc.
    • Zisis should be able to make changes before next week, but will also make the source available to David for editing.
    • Andrei is preparing plots of the neutron rejection vs photon efficiency for the two configurations.
  12. SiPM testing at JLab
    • Preparations are close to complete except for the electronics
    • Fernando estimates that the boards should be available next month.
    • Analysis of the data from the last shipment of SiPM from Hamamatsu to JLab shows some outliers and are under evaluation.
  13. Any other business
