Announcements

Next Meeting

Note: I will not be available 26-Sep, so no meeting unless someone else wants to organize it

1:30 PM Wed 10-Oct-2012 CC F326

Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Brian M, Dave L, Vardan G, Hovanes E, Alex S.

Counting House

  • Waiting for parts to complete above-rack electrical work in the Rack Room.
  • PR for fibers in, cost $8k.
  • Telecom switch will be installed after fibers are in, then we'll run some lines to the hall.
  • UPS is connected, arranging to have it turned on.

FDC Test

Beni is still working on problems with FADC125 with help from Cody. The module loses sync with the rest of the DAQ system and has to be periodically reset. It has a hard-coded VME address so only one is allowed per crate at the moment. It only works in particular slots on the left side of the crate.

JInventory system

  • Many improvements being worked on.
  • Plan to use database to generate the translation table needed during offline analysis.
  • Still not clear what to do about channels: done in the same way as slots, or via the soon-to-be-added cable component of the database (from CLAS)?
  • It is clear we need conventions for many of the fields.
  • Josh will enter all the Allen-Bradley equipment we have soon.
  • Need to generate web graphics from the database, but no one to work on it.
  • Barcode scanners will be ordered after 1-Oct.

Translation table

  • Will use Python script to read JInventory database.
  • Script will generate XML or whatever is needed by the offline (current thinking is that XML is fine).
  • Thus maintenance of the JInventory database when modules or cables are moved is critical.
  • Much discussion about what should appear in the data itself concerning crate and module ID's.
  • Note that Bryan's code generates a crate map upon crate reboot, can be used in the readout list.

Data Challenge

Hope to use simulated raw data, need Dave A's library to generate EVIO data from MC data. Elliott's code is mostly ready to go.

DAQ

  • Bryan is evaluation latest Core I7 single board computers now.
  • Previous generation, the ones we plan to purchase, will work fine.
  • New models include built-in CF disk, eliminates compatibility problems.
  • EVIO v4 C++ version is now available, compatible with JEvio v4.
  • RFQ's for ROC purchase coming in now.

EPICS

  • CAEN V1495's will be used in controls, Hovanes received a few of them.
  • Still working on Yerevan MOU so that we can invite people from Yerevan (Nerses, Vanik, Sergey A, etc).
