Time/Location

1:30 PM Wed 23-Oct-2013 CC F326

Announcements

Elliott noted that Mark D is the point of contact for all changes to DAQ hardware in the hall. I.e. coordinate with Mark prior to changing any modules, modifying any wiring, etc.

Next Meeting

1:30 PM Wed 6-Nov-2013 CC F326

Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Bryan M, Serguei P, Beni Z, Sean D, Dave A, Hovanes E, Alex S.

FCAL Switch

FCAL swtiches being installed using interim Ethernet connections. We decided that on all switches (except solenoid controls) the top left 9 ports will be reserved for DAQ, the remainder for controls. Dave A suggested we reserve 10 for DAQ in case we need a spare.

Telecom Fiber Installation

It is now in the hands of Facilities (Jason W) to work with Tom C and Shields to get a quote.

Front End Firmware

  • Updated trigger distribution firmware will be ready soon (for TI, TS, etc) for distribution of block readout levels.
  • Ed should have updated FADC250 and F1TDC firmware next week.
  • Cody will implement the readout conventions in the FADC125 in a few months, after the modules are working and tested.
  • Firmware for CTP, SSP, GTP under development.
  • Bryan M will modify readout libs as needed for the new firmware. You will have to use the lib corresponding to the firmware in your modules.

Trigger Fibers

Chris said there is one week delivery for trigger fibers. He will order them as needed and his guys will install them. He will install them as the cable trays become available and as the need arises.

Raid-to-Silo Transfer

Elliott and Paul will get the raid-to-silo system going. Initial vsn will just move files as they appear in the staging area (delete-on-copy). Eventually files will be kept on the RAID system until space is needed (just-in-time-deletion). In order to have reasonable numbers of data files in a single directory the dirs will be organized by run period and run number.

FCAL tests

Alex has installed two master TI's to start. John L will analyse the data. Mark D and Dave L will get ensure the JANA framework can deal with the data files.

Farm Manager

Vardan is making good progress. He is using the CodaObject framework to communicate with run control and with the farm processes. The farm processes only talk to the manager, not to run control, although the protocols are the same (different cMsg namespace). Currently there are configuration problems in the EMU that Carl is working on.

DAQ and CODA3

  • Need about $1200 worth of Cisco 10GB cables, generic ones ordered don't work.
  • Dave A will work with Mark D to install a new version of CODA3 soon.
  • Not many crates left in Rack Room, they've been moved to the hall.
  • ROC order is out of Dave A's hands, PR is in, currently being held up due to budget concerns. It is for 42 boards, about 10 weeks delivery.
  • Previously ordered 18 + 17 boards.

evioETChannel

Elliott is working on this, needed for data challenge, but otherwise low priority. This will make accessing EVIO data in ET systems easier.

Online Databases

  • Dmitry should be coming soon, needs a ticket but has visa.
  • Many applications: trigger config, CCDB, conDB, translation tables, EPICS configuration, etc.
  • Need to get going on this soon.

JInventory Database

Serguei continues to add information as he receives it. Geometrical information used to create web page graphics.

EPICS

  • Hovanes is working on the alarm system, BEAST from SNS (ORNL).
  • Eventually we'll need to enter alarm information from other than EPICS systems.
  • EPICS has successfully communicated with A-B CompactLogix PLC's (vs ControlLogix, which is used only in the solenoid control system).

DAQ Group

  • We will have our own DHCP server for the DAQ and controls networks.
  • General and development will use servers managed by the CC.
  • Bryan will get our ROC booting system working.
