Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Graham H, Hovanes e, Dave L, Beni Z, Yi Q, Bryan M, Dave A, Alex S, Lubomir P, Mark I.

Computer installation

Paul L will coordinate all computer and software installation in the Rack room. For some classes of machines both 32-bit and 64-bit libraries are needed (EPICS servers, others).

Naming Schemes

See Hovanes' proposal for crate, roc and computer naming schemes above. After some discussion slightly modified versions were agreed upon by everyone. Note that IP aliases can be used to name particular computers by function (if needed).

Tasks for outside groups

We discussed a number of tasks that might be done by outside groups. These include high priority tasks, those listed in the 12GEV schedule, as well as low priority tasks not in the schedule (the project can pay for the former, but not for the latter). Elliott agreed to collect everything into a wiki page. Some tasks discussed:

  • RootSpy, maybe at Northwestern U.
  • ROL's - maybe Bryan M. Dave L and Bryan will determine how best the ROL's should be written and integrated with the trigger system via the DAQ test stand.
  • Disentangler - DAQ group, did we pay for this already?
  • Farm manager - maybe Vardan.
  • Event display
  • ECS - maybe Vardan, but this is not needed until after 10/14.
  • Hardware setup/testing - summer students?
  • CSS gui's - visiting scientists and grad students, maybe some work can be done at universities.

Front end data format

Dave A and Ed J's proposal is based on what was done for the FADC250. Elliott will pursue getting agreement by all FPGA programmers in the DAQ and Electronics groups.

L3 trigger

Although this is not in the project many in the collaboration want to use this sooner rather than later, perhaps soon after the first physics run. MIT is interested in this, but should it be high priority? Should we consider implementing "deferral" or delayed writing of data to tape via disk queues in the L3 processing nodes?

Rebaseline

Dave L and Elliott have been helping Hovanes supply Eugene with all the information needed (tasks, costs, manpower needed, timelines, BOE's, etc). For the most part the software lines have been completely revised whereas most of the hardware lines were only slightly modified.

For pulling this off Hovanes deserves a medal and Eugene deserves the Nobel prize!

Counting house

  • Paul has been busy installing hardware and operating systems, configuring the file server, setting up accounts and disk areas, etc.
  • We hope to get the furniture orders out within the next two weeks, about six weeks delivery time.
