Next Meeting

Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Mark I, Bryan M, Hovanes E, Dave A.

TDR

Elliott will look into what needs to be done.

JInventory Database

Elliott will release this in the next day or so. This will be the first production release, so data entered will be kept.

FCC Specifications

Noise specs for equipment installed in the hall will be examined on a case-by-case basis. We may still run UPS power from the counting house to the hall, Giles will make a recommendation.

mini-Hbook

Sergey Boyarinov (CLAS) developed a mini-histogramming package suitable for use in high-speed front-end modules. We will investigate whether it is useful for Hall D. Some noted we could use ROOT instead, but others objected that it would be too slow and unweildy in the front-end processors.

Counting House

Hovanes reported he and Elliott tagged some surplus furniture in the Test Lab to be moved to Hall D. Some of it even showed up! Nothing new on running 480V power to the Rack Room, everything is held up in Facilities.

Scalers

Being tested in CLAS, some bugs found fixed by Ben.

12 GeV Project

Elliott and Hovanes have to complete a number of planning documents by the end of May. Many of the construction deadlines have been extended because of the longer shutdown and lack of money.

ELog

Accelerator has tentatively embraced requirements from the four halls and compiled by Graham and plans to implement them. No word on when.

DAQ

Dave A reported on the latest from the DAQ group:

  • CODA3 EMU needs work to reconcile communication between the ROC (Dave) and EB (Carl).
  • Everything else seems to work and is fairly stable.
  • Much of it has been used in the halls for production running, e.g QWeak has been using the new run control package.
  • CODA3 will output EVIO v4 files, full v4 release coming.
  • Other projects on hold until CODA3 release.

  • Dave is working on an RFQ for the front-end CPU modules.
  • Three vendors appear interested, no real difference between them, cheapest would be fine.
  • Looking at dual and quad-core modules, staged purchase of both.
  • Dave is collecting counts, schedules, etc. for procurement, Glenn is working on this as well.
  • Hope to get RFQ out by the summer.
  • Staged purchase will be over two years max.
  • Modules have long commercial lifetime, will not become obsolete during procurement.

  • CLAS reported too much header information coming out of FADC250, a real problem at high trigger rates.

EPICS

  • Nerses gave a full report on CAEN HV control at the Control's meeting earlier this week.
  • He is leaving this weekend but should return in four months to continue on this.
  • Hovanes has been looking at the new EPICS alarm system, it looks pretty good, he will use it in the BCAL test.
  • Vanik continues to work on stepper motor controllers, etc.

Controls

  • Continued work on the solenoid control system, things going well but more time/manpower needed if we want to run this Fall.
  • Josh purchased and will test Allen-Bradley thermocouple modules for the CDC thermocouples
  • Yi is about ready to purchase the PXI system to read out the coil tap voltages and other sensors.
  • One concern is whether they conduct noise into the CDC, need to coordinate with Fernando.
