Announcements

Next Meeting

27-Jun-2008 1pm CC F326

New Action Items from this Meeting

  • Elliott will rework the DAQ milestones for 2008, based on discussion today.

Minutes

Attendees: Elliott W, Simon T, David L, Dave D, Dave A, Fernando B, Carl T, Vardan G, Elke A, some others drifted in late...

Fiber Test Stand

  • Brian and Carl did a great job cleaning up F117 and making room for us.
  • Elliott and Beni moved a lot of stuff from the BCAL test area in Hall B into F117, many thanks to Bill and Armen from the Electronics group for supplying the muscle. We found most of the NIM modules used in the BCAL test!
  • Beni ordered everything needed for the dark box. He found a stepper motor controller.
  • Elliott scrounged up two linux computers and both are working. Contact Beni or Elliott for account info and passwords.
  • Dave A kindly lent us a single board computer and more importantly, a CAEN V792 integrating ADC.
  • Ed J will get us a TI board and an F1TDC.
  • Elliott installed all the DAQ software needed (later...everything is working).
  • Simon supplied an example VxWorks program that reads out an ADC and a TDC to use as a template.
  • Only problem: minicom not working yet, not sure why. This provides the interface to the RS232 port, needed to boot the computer in the VME crate (later...turned out to be a bad cable).

Other Test Setups

Dave L reported on using a summer student to help set up an automated system to measure fdc cathode flatness.

  • Setting up in EEL building using VME crate and Intel 7865 Core-Duo single board computer running Linux (no VxWorks).
  • This board is the kind we are hoping to use in the final Linux-only DAQ system.
  • Dave also has a stepper motor controller.

Trigger Status

Dave Doughty gave an impromptu lecture on his recent travels in Peru. This was much more interesting than his usual trigger status report. He did look for new GlueX collaborators, but with no luck.

Electronics Status

  • Fernando reported on successful testing at 90% level of new TI prototype.
  • FADC will be shipped to IU soon, along with at TI and some other boards Matt needs.

Online Trigger/DAQ Milestones

  • We went through the 2008 online trigger/daq milestones line by line, as they needed updating from late 2007 when they were written.
  • Work for all milestones is on target or close to being on target.
  • Lots of electronic hardware will be appearing over the summer.
  • 100 MHz FADC design due this month.
  • Elke noted that if we can't fit 72 channels per board there will be a major impact on cost, mainly for more crates and boards.
  • Elliott will update list to use current terminology, and reorganize them hierarchically by topic.
