GlueX Photon Beamline Commissioning Plan
Videoconference meeting: 4:00 EDT, June 11, 2014
Present: Richard Jones, James McIntyre [UConn] and Elton S., Alex D., Hovannes E., Mike M., Eugene C.[Jlab]

Purpose: Develop a list of what we need to do for commissioning

  1. We need to set up a day to aim for an internal review of the photon beam commissioning plan. This review will be in preparation for the Accelerator Readiness Review, to be held near the end of August.
  2. Target should be end of July, beginning of August.

Schedules:

  1. Alexandre is leaving for 2 weeks starting Sunday June 16.
  2. Todd left today and will be away for 2 weeks. This means that it will be the end of June before any work can be done by these people.
  3. Mike is free after July 4. The PAC is also happening around the end of July, so we need to avoid whenever that will be. The PAC is July 28-31.
  4. Eugene is away the week of July 15.
  5. Elton is away July 17-18 and July 30-Aug 6.
  6. Richard is away July 7-25.

Tentative Date for Review: The earliest date that seems like it would work for everyone is August 8.

People we would like to have in the room:

  1. GlueX: Richard J., Hovannes E., Alex S., Alex D., Elton S., Eugene C.
  2. Accelerator: Yves R., Mike S., Todd S., Michael M.,
  3. Hall B: Stephan S., Francois ?, Andy Sandorfi
  4. (Note Added by Elton 6/23) RADCON: George Kharashvili, Pavel Degtiarenko
  5. Physics: Javier Gomez

Goals for the Review

  1. We need to have a few sentences stating goals for the meeting, to give the non-GlueX participants an idea of what we are asking them to do. The hope would be to receive a report from the reviewers after the meeting.
  2. Elton will create a draft of these goals and circulate them to this group for comments.

Procedures for detectors along the beam

  1. Pair spectrometer
  2. Scanners (one electron at amorphous radiator location, one photon at pair spectrometer)
  3. Active collimator
  4. Secondary collimator
  5. Profile monitor
  6. Halo monitors
  7. Radiators
  8. Tagger microscope
  9. Tagger fixed array hodoscope
  10. (Total absorption counter, not needed for this fall)

Sketch of presentations at review

  1. Accelerator: electron beam commissioning
  2. Hall D detectors pre-beam preparations (see above)
  3. Photon beam commissioning

Michael mentioned that there is a document currently in draft form called, “Hall D Beam Delivery Procedure”. He plans to have that document revised and ready for the Accelerator Review. That means that there should be a solid draft of it before our internal review. Michael will put out a draft next week that we can start to review.

Next meeting will be 4:00 July 9.
