Minutes

Attending: Elton, Hovanes, Eugene, Tim, Alexandre (JLab); Pavel, George (RadCon); Michael (Ops); Alex Barnes (UConn); Curtis (CMU);

  1. Announcements
    • Accelerator schedule is on track
  2. ARR3 Recommendations
    • ARR3 Report
    • Recommendations need to be closed out before approval is given for running. Three main items for Physics:
    • EH&S violations: These were cleared shortly after the ARR review. A walkthrough is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to check this off
    • Sweep procedure including the FCAL dark room. Some modifications to the FCAL procedure have been implemented into a new draft, which will be passed around for signatures. Elton and Michael met with Tom Oren, Dan Sexton, Paul Vasilauskis met this afternoon and walked the sweep course. We discussed the plan for including a check of the FCAL dark room during the sweep and came up with a plan. The plan will be incorporated into the accelerator sweep procedure, which will be reviewed by Henry Robertson when he returns on Monday.
    • Shield wall in the tagger and approval. Tim will send the final drawings to Pavel for official approval by the Safety Configuration Management Board (SCMB). Once installed the configuration will be labeled by RadCon concluding the process.
  3. Accelerator and Hall D Interface Document - update
    • Michael and Elton agreed to remove 12 GeV references from document. Elton will update the document and pass it around for final comments and feedback. It should then be able to be passed around for signatures.
  4. Update on Photon Commissioning (Alexandre)
    • Procedures are still needed
    • The last two sections, DC alignment and detector checkout, need to be detailed and broken up into shorter run periods. For example, the trigger commissioning period needs to be meshed in with the overall program
    • The detector commissioning has been discussed within the calibration working group. Alexandre will meet with Sean and incorporate the discussions into the commissioning plan.
  5. Beam Simulations
    • Todd has looked at the code but is having some trouble with compilations. Will need to ask Richard some questions about how to resolve this.
  6. RadCon update (Pavel)
    1. Cavity in last labyrinth wall is not filled in, but should be.
      • Last discussion decided that it was not essential for this run, but desirable simply to eliminate the need for stacking at a later date in an irradiated area
      • More thought on this topic suggests that much of the neutron from the dump may be coming through that week part of the shielding and would increase the dosage from this run producing rates that could have uncertainties in extrapolation to higher intensities. Therefore, Pavel would like to see that shielding completed.
      • Tim promised to look into the possibility of having Hall D personnel work on this next week.
    2. Setting up the software model to simulate backgrounds in the tagger hall. Should have some results in a few weeks
      • Eugene: In the long run, we also would like to know the effectiveness of using a shielding box around the flange
      • Richard showed some results of a simulation at the collaboration meeting, which showed that the neutron rate inside the shield box was negligible. However, the finer hadronic code was not included in the simulation.
    3. Ion chambers
      • Setting up software to monitor the ion chambers. Alexandre has passed on names of EPICS variables, but working on getting signals.
      • Alexandre will send names of additional counters
      • The ion chambers are being calibrated with a Cs source.
  7. Other business
    • Elton: During our walking of the sweep route this afternoon, the question of sectioning off the area under the magnet during routine radiation surveys. Pavel would ask Keith about the possibility of roping this off. Of course, if access to the area under the magnet was required a complete survey would be completed.
    • Elton: also asked about the 600 G line on the floor on the upstream of the magnet. Is it a keep-out zone?
