RC summary 07/27-08/05 2020

My RC period covered from July 27 to August 5th 2020. Delivery of physics quality beam was schedule for July 27th but, due to various problems, notably one with the power supply of the chiller for North Linac, the delivery was postponed to August 1st. By July 30th, we had completed our Hot Check Out without notable issue. July 31st at noon, we locked up the Hall. The counting room was manned starting Aug. 1st, 8am, with a first glimpse of beam around 1pm (the delay was principally due to a 2K cold box trip and thunderstorms on the evening of July 31st). The target was filled in the morning of August 1st and the solenoid was ramped up at the same time. However, due to a problem with the PXI readout, it was ramped down later in the morning. The solenoid was then ramped-up again to its nominal 1350A without problem. Otherwise August 1st was spent waiting for the beam and investigating a communication problem the TagM. CW beam arrived around 3am on Aug. 2nd, followed by beam quality checks, flux optimization and detector check-outs and calibrations. The only major issue was the communication problem with the TagM, which required three accesses to diagnose and then fix (Aug. 1st-3rd). This caused the run plan to be reorganized to accommodate for the TagM unavailability. The problem, traced down to a faulty power supply, was eventually fixed in the afternoon of Aug. 3rd. Appart for the access time, the (reorganized) run plan was not delayed since we had enough tasks that could be done without TagM until its repair. Shortly after the TagM repair, as we were ready to get into GlueX-II production mode, hurricane Isaias arrived (Tuesday 4th, early morning) and a couple of tornado warnings shut down CEBAF for the rest of the night. Operations had not restarted by the end of my RC period (Wednesday August 5th, 1:30pm) but the resumption was imminent. In all, during my RC period, out of the expected 88h of beam we got 17h of beam which were employed in getting us ready for production. All the preliminary tasks were done except verifying the diamond alignement and the final touch on the main trigger check out. We lost 14.5h of beam, mostly due to the TagM problem.
