Items for followup from previous meeting(s)

  1. Monitoring
  2. Beam test

Tentative Agenda

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Monitoring. Christina cannot participate, but she sent this note;
    • I can report that the new LED's have arrived, Kappos will mount them this week and hopefully we will test them next week.
    • I will also send you few slides over the weekend to prsent in the coll.meeting.
  4. FCAL
    1. Construction Status: mechanical, bases (notes from Matt)
  5. BCAL
    1. Construction Status: builds
  6. Simulations/Reconstruction
  7. Timing measurements of SiPMs GlueX-doc-1814 (Elton)
  8. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011) (Kei)
    1. Contact with Hall B (Elton)
      • After talking to Stepan, he got an estimate from Doug to remove the blower and pipes (1/2 day). It is a good filler job and he will pass this on to Dave so that it gets added to the Hall B task list.
  9. Discussions of presentations at GlueX-Collaboration-Sep-2011
  10. Any other business

Minutes

Attending: Yi, Beni, Tim, Elton, Dave (Jlab); Zisis, Andrei (UofR); Matt, Kei (IU)

  4. FCAL
    1. Cockcroft-Walton bases moving along fine, received several hundred. No anomalies.
      • Dan is adding finishing touches to firmware. Reprograming over the CAN bus, which works with minor issues under study
      • Uncovered ways to speed up the response time to be able to monitor the HVs more rapidly.
    2. Finalizing the device for testing PMTs glued onto light guides
    3. Support structure
      • Good progress, stopped temporarily to make parts for the beamtest
      • Need to design the chassis for CANE ethernet and trigger processing with fanouts. Waiting for Fernando to address some safety requirements. Preliminary design will be circulated soon for feedback.
    4. Request for quotes for magnetic shields is out.
  5. BCAL
    1. Will place top plate on 47 today and the top plate on 48 on Friday, completing the builds of all 48 modules
    2. Machining 41-44 in final stages.
      • Inspection on Wed. Pickup for shipping on Oct 3 and delivery to Jlab later next week.
      • Working with Tim to finalize dimensions on last modules including the keystone
    3. Fibers. Kuraray scheduled to ship out reworked shipment #29 today.
    4. First article SiPMs
      • Testing for gain uniformity among cells is in progress
      • Will compare the scope pulses of each cell relative to average. Most cells are within 6%, one outlier is at 20% deviation.
      • Sequence of measurements is forward, then backward, then random checks
  6. Simulations/Reconstruction
    • David presented the first results of energy resolution comparing various configurations, but resulted in rather large floor terms, which is under investigation.
    • Andrei investigated the n/gamma separation using longitudinal shape profile to see if an additional layer would help, with no significant improvement.
  7. Timing measurements of SiPMs GlueX-doc-1814 (Elton)
    • Reviewed measurements of timing resolution of SiPM array from draft GlueX-doc. Main conclusions are that the compact and Bcal production boards give the same time resolution and the time resolution of the SiPM is approximately 1.6 times worse than the reference R2083. Anomalous behavior is seen at high rates (at about 1 MHz), but this is not completely understood. Ivan is setting up a more flexible system to continue the timing tests.
  8. Beam tests in Hall B (fall 2011) (Kei)
    1. Started construction on the beam test setup
      • Will start defining the electronics setup, and send proposal around for comments.
      • Matt and Kei will be at JLab next Wed afternoon and we will visit Hall B to review options for the beam test.
    2. Contact with Hall B (Elton)
      • After talking to Stepan, he got an estimate from Doug to remove the blower and pipes (1/2 day). It is a good filler job and he will pass this on to Dave so that it gets added to the Hall B task list.
  9. Discussions of presentations at GlueX-Collaboration-Sep-2011
  10. Any other business
    • Eugene mentioned that Liping is putting together some ideas for a 3000 element crystal PbWO3 array in collaboration with Chinese groups (initially with the eye toward improved Primex experiments)
    • JLab is identifying possible areas of collaboration with Chinese groups, and calorimeters is an area of common interest. Liping will be visiting China next week for discussions.
    • Possible options are a small homogenous calorimeter (using fcal electronics) or a hybrid with central crystals and Pb glass surrounding it, but this would require additional electronics.
