DAQ Update
Dave A discussed the current status of and recent project in the JLab DAQ group:
- DAQ goup now fully staffed, recent hires Bryan Moffit and William Gu.
- Have enough staff to meet 12 GeV obligations and deliver CODA 3 on time.
- Bryan recently working on Linux ROC, William working on TI and TD boards.
- CODA 2.6.1 release soon, COOL-based run control state machine.
- uses latest cMsg and AFECS
- Haven't started working on farm software yet.
- Carl is working on fixing remaining cMsg VxWorks bugs.
Linux ROC
- See Bryan's slides (link above) for more details;
- Using the GE FANUC dual-core VME board.
- Has 4 GB flash memory, Tempe chip (interface to VME).
- Supports 2ESST.
- Has longer interrupt latency and DMA setup than the Motorola PowerPC board, but this is not an issue.
- Bryan had to modify the GE-supplied software to get better performance, including the Tempe libs.
- The F1, FADC, and TI libs now work with the GE FANUC board.
- Worked on scheduling, latencies, DMA speeds.
- Improving core mgmt for threads gained 20 micro-sec.
- Not using any version of real-time Linux, only real-time extensions.
ICALEPCS 2009
Elliott reported on the ICALEPCS conference in Kobe, Japan. See his slides (link above) for details.
Coil Test
Elliott gave a brief update on the status of the coil test.
- Steady progress in controls, but problems being found in the coils themselves.
- Solenoid review coming up next week.
- Should be able to use QWeak area nearby.
- New tech hires helping a lot!
- Most instrumentation ordered, a few items left.
- Incorrect wire used for cryo sensors, must be replaced in all four coils.
- Planning to work on three coils for other reasons so replacing wire not a problem.
- Will have to open coil 4 just to replace wire.
- Coil test schedule now extending into late 2010 or beyond.
